Just remember -- whatever you do....

ETA: It occurs to me that some of us are watching on BBC America, and some of us are downloading episodes -- usually two weeks before they're shown on BBC America. So, in your subject line, please note what ep you're commenting about. The newest one for download is 5.04, "The Time of Angels". The one that ran last night on BBC America is 5.02, "The Beast Below".

TO be honest it was just an okay episode, though the revelation that K-9 was a timelord was a pleasant surprise. I'd always sus...

Er, oops.

I think the K9 puppies were a bigger surprise. :-)

I thought this was a New Series 5 Dr Who spoiler thread, not a Sara Jane Adventures Season 3 spoiler thread. And really, switching to a robot cat? Who in their right mind would expect that to ever work?? I mean, it's a cat!! It never obeys orders (other than "go sleep in the sunbeam").

Oh I mean really "Feed me mistress!". *rolls eyes*

And what was with the Gorn suit in the closet? I mean it had a chest hole and all so it makes some sort of sense but can you honestly see a timelord of any type dressed as a Gorn?

Suggestion: how about two separate spoiler threads/posts, so BBCA folk can comment without fear of spoilers and downloading folks don't have to worry about spoiling?

"The Beast Below" on BBCA

BBC America showed 5.02, "The Beast Below", last night. (Remember it's a two week lag, and 4 - 2 usually equals 2. :) )

I enjoyed it. There were things that didn't quite work, the mechanical men in particular, but the main dilemma, balancing the life of the space whale against the lives of all the passengers, was effective, as was Amy's solution. It's interesting that they start off the new Doctor by showing him getting things wrong in a big way, and having his Companion bail him out. Plus, the scene in the whale's mouth, and the means of escape, were funny. I know I'm not getting this quote right, but I laughed out loud at "Right, there'll be no dignity in this at all."

"Right! This won't be big on dignity!"

And for the record I laughed loudly at that particular scene. :-)

FWIW Matt Smith has performed beyond my expectations. It's the opening music I hate...

As much as I like the new Doc/Companion/Tardis, I've thought the episodes themselves were just okay up until this week. I felt like this one upped the ante considerably, and made me find River Song much more compelling than I did before. The gun scene from the trailer was a relief - I had certainly hoped he wasn't using it as a weapon, per se. I don't like the idea of the Doctor carrying a gun. But when you need a projectile or a flare, you need a projectile or a flare.

Yeah, the doctor does not usually use a gun. Except for four episodes back--End of Time.

The River Song revelation was interestiing: he keeps meeting her but out of chronological order for the two of them. Best line of the episode was River saying "Spoiler!" If they ever do a new multiple doctor episode, it should feature River just to really throw things for a loop (just when did he meet her for the first time?) Heck, make it even MORE interesting, show the 12th Doctor before he is ever introduced (but only if they get a commitment from the actor used for that role to actually take it when Matt Smith leaves).

As others have said, this episode was a huge win. The first two episodes were good but not great. The third episode showed some potential (adding a new mystery around Amy's memory of the Daleks). This episode is how I want the series to be. You could hear my ARGH!! when the episode ended from across the house (those who have seen it know why :) Next week I am at PenguiCon when episode airs, so I may be late in seeing episode 5. Although I could see us doing a viewing party there since I am sure a lot of us will try to download it all at once.

The best episode of the show in a long while, since at least "Turn Left." Gripping, witty, fast-paced, with great performances all around. And MAtt Smith has quickly gone from really good to amazing.
