I know it's a video-heavy morning already, but if you didn't see Barack Obama's prime-time half-hour last night, here it is:

This guy is gonna be a fuck of a president.

If you haven't seen it yet, hop over to the Daily Show site and catch Jon Stewart's interview with Obama.

That was a fine 30 minutes of TV. He made really good connections to "average Americans" IMO, and it showed him as a warm, devoted family man too.

I watched it last night and I have to agree with you Tom. The whole of the ad was uplifting, it was honest and heartfelt. It was such a departure from the old "vote for me because I'm not that jerk" politics that I've seen so far that I almost cried.

He'll be an amazing President, should he win and I hope that he does.

You wanna talk about hope? My friend [livejournal.com profile] eldercat was over last night and said he'd seen a prediction poll that listed Texas as "too close to call".

THAT'S some fucking hope right there.

McCain is currently rolling out robocalls in Arizona. The only possible explanation I can see is that his options are no longer seen as victory versus defeat, but rather defeat versus abject humiliation.

I understand abject humiliation builds character, and FSM knows the McCain/Palin camp could use some. I'm hoping it's not close at all. No complacency: Get Out The Vote.

Right now MSNBC is running a Palin speach in Limbaugh's home town of Cape Girardeau, MO.

Contrasting it with what I saw last night only heightens my extreme disappointment in the way McCain's run his campaign. All they've done is attack, attack, attack and then attacked some more.

They've lied, manipulated, glossed over, dismissed and generally run the most dishonorable campaigns I've ever seen. I'm glad I no longer count myself among their odious number.

Obama has my vote this election cycle. No doubt about it.

I tell ya. The Anonymous Liberal (http://www.anonymousliberal.com/2008/10/making-mccain-look-small.html) puts it this way:
... Whether or not you agree with his policies or think he'll be able to do what he says, his campaign is quite clearly about making life better for the American people. It's about health care and jobs and education and the economy.

And what was McCain's campaign about today? He and his running mate spent the whole day calling on the LA Times to release a video tape of a farewell party that Obama attended for a Palestinian professor at the University of Chicago in 2003.
There's no more time for these small, petty games. We've got a country to fix.

I agree completely. I guess it's up to us to fix it since people like Palin only want to denigrate others.

What say you all?

Mmm. Yesterday, we got mail from both the McCain and Obama campaigns.

The McCain mail was a trash piece bringing up Bill Ayers and trying to link him with Obama again.

The Obama mail was a reminder to vote, giving all sorts of information: where my local polling place was (they even got it right, which is a surprise), what sort of things you might need to vote, the time the polling places are open, etc. Just a message to go out and vote, and doing everything they could to help us vote.

However, we already have a fuck of a president. A fuck of a fucking fuck-up president. Perhaps, however, we shall have a fucking fine president in a few months.

Trust me, it does matter. I think the last eight years has made that painfully clear for a lot of us. I didn't particularly like Clinton -- I thought he was phony and he made a lot of quiet policy choices that were very clearly against things in which I believe. (Hey look somewhere else while I sign the DOMA.)

Contrast with W. As much as I disliked Clinton, he was much better than W and no matter how many things he did with which I disagreed, he did far more things of which I approve.

Sure, we might still get fucked, but at least we'll get some lube and a kiss out of it.

Yeah, politicians are all the same.

Unless you might ever get pregnant, or know someone who might.

Unless you have less-than-perfect health care coverage.

Unless you're in a group that some people are afraid of, and it's possible (but not necessary) to gain power by encouraging that fear.

Unless you work some place where safety regulations make a literal life-or-death difference.

Unless you admit that politicians, like other human beings, vary in their ability and willingness to do their jobs with honor, morality, and competence.

So far, so good. It's still sore, but I think that's more from me half-peeling back my damn thumbnail to get to it. (For those who did not know: I got a very, VERY inconvenient splinter at the OVFF Dead Dog. Jammed right under my right thumbnail, hurt like crazy, took surgical tweezers to extract. This being OVFF, somebody had some. ;)

You know, I have always been a cynic when it comes to government, and I have never trusted government.

Obama is managing to make me have hope.

I'm not sure whether to really like him or be mad at him for that, but I will damn sure be voting for him.

Amazing. My grandparents came up from nothing or the next thing to it--sharecroppers, half-breed hillbillies in appalachia, etc. they worked their butts off to get educated and into good jobs so their grandkids could be middle-class graduate degree holders. When Obama went into his final sales pitch at the end and reminded us that we all had some relative or relatives who sacrificed so we could have what we have today, I must admit I shed a tear. We squandered some of our inheritance when the good times came, but there's no reason we can't get it back. I just hope he's half as good a president as he is a candidate.

This guy is gonna be a fuck of a president.
