WindyCon So Far
Nov. 16th, 2008 08:15 amIt's been a lovely time, simply lovely. Lots of friends, lots of hugs. The Westin Lombard, or Yorktown, or Enterprise, or Destroyer, or whatever is a big, new, gorgeous hotel with a very nice staff. The biggest problem is that the building's kinda long, which caused a scheduling snafu.
My two sets yesterday went pretty well, I thought, especially vocally (a little problem with some of the guitar work, but I've got all winter to get back into shape for the hardest songs), and excellent audiences for both. Unfortunately, I could not sing "Hellraiser" with
toyboatband, as their set (at one end of the hotel) was up against the masquerade (at the other end of the hotel), and I had to sing at halftime. However, we are planning for it at Duckon, and I can ask
janmagic to help out with the scheduling on that. :)
There were also two fun things at the masquerade: A lady had a costume inspired by "Destroyer of Worlds"; and, when I was undecided as to whether to sing "307 Ale" or "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (I ended up doing both),
bedlamhouse yelled out, "307 Grog"! So I should have that written in a day or two.
I didn't go to the open filk either night because I was pooped, but I understand Toyboat held forth nicely on Friday. If I get to Cap (which I'd like to), I'll do more at the filk. Next Windy, I damn sure will. ;)
How's your con, or non-con weekend?

Date: 2008-11-16 02:19 pm (UTC)I never do non-con. Safe, sane, and conse.... Oh. Nevermind.
More seriously: Friday night, went to the conference dead-dog (unusually sedate; I played a game of 1000 Blank White Cards). Collapsed around 1am (PST).
Saturday, slept in 'til 8:30am for the first time all week, finished packing, and flew back home from the San Diego conference. About a 50 Fahrenheit-degree delta-T. Sat next to a maybe-22 year-old Marine returning from Iraq and a maybe 60-something ex-Top Gun retired Navy pilot; our flight attendant's been doing this for 33 years and had a delightfully sassy attitude. Got home, unpacked, updated the expense report, sorted (but faled to process) the previous 8 days' postal mail, and collapsed.
Sunday (today), tried to reshift time zones. Need to process the postal mail and the backlog of email, try to catch up on eljay instead of making the "bankrupt my pants" posting, write my expense and trip reports, do lots of laundry, possibly grocery shop, and prepare to wake up at 7am (4am unshifted bioloigcal) tomorrow.

Date: 2008-11-16 02:37 pm (UTC)The steroids seem to be kicking a good amount of the bronchitis out. Lots of productive coughing. See, they cannot give me Mucinex, as I have an issue with it giving me bronchitis. I have some of the weirdest allergic reactions. The CPAP masks makes my face break out, blister, crack, bleed, etc. Mucinex give me bronchitis (or makes it worse). Tetnus is the only normal allergic reaction which is high fever, shakes, and being lethargic.
Oh well, time for some homemake waffles for breakfast.

Date: 2008-11-16 10:04 pm (UTC)The only scheduled thing I was determined to do at this con was make it to your concert, and I did so. I even brought along at least 3 people who had never heard you before, and they were all greatly impressed by the end of it. ^_^
It was really good to get to see you on stage again, Tom.
Great Concert
Date: 2008-11-17 09:21 pm (UTC)The reason I asked you about the origin of your song, Dervish, is that, while I was listening to it, I began to toy with your characters and thought about how interesting it would be to do a short story about them--say, at the height of their careers as mercenary assassins. Do they, by any chance, have names and would you mind if I worked on that story?
I returned home to find that "Closing-time Girl" had earned a nice, juicy, rejection email from Strange Horizons. No biggie--time to go over the list and see who gets to read it next. If I have time before "Heroes" tonight, I'll put the finishing touches on the gay werewolf story for the anthology and send it off.
Allie and I have been looking into Project Wonderful for button ads--thinking of a one-week button blitz on QC and/or GG to get folks to my website for the December special.
In any case, my next con's Chambanacon, which should be good both from an artistic and a financial standpoint, since my costs to go are minimal. Jody Lyn Nye is the GoH, so I may finally get to sit down and talk to her for a while without either of us ending up late for something we have to be at.
Anyway, enjoy the book. Hope to see you at Cap.
