It's been a lovely time, simply lovely. Lots of friends, lots of hugs. The Westin Lombard, or Yorktown, or Enterprise, or Destroyer, or whatever is a big, new, gorgeous hotel with a very nice staff. The biggest problem is that the building's kinda long, which caused a scheduling snafu.

My two sets yesterday went pretty well, I thought, especially vocally (a little problem with some of the guitar work, but I've got all winter to get back into shape for the hardest songs), and excellent audiences for both. Unfortunately, I could not sing "Hellraiser" with [livejournal.com profile] toyboatband, as their set (at one end of the hotel) was up against the masquerade (at the other end of the hotel), and I had to sing at halftime. However, we are planning for it at Duckon, and I can ask [livejournal.com profile] janmagic to help out with the scheduling on that. :)

There were also two fun things at the masquerade: A lady had a costume inspired by "Destroyer of Worlds"; and, when I was undecided as to whether to sing "307 Ale" or "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (I ended up doing both), [livejournal.com profile] bedlamhouse yelled out, "307 Grog"! So I should have that written in a day or two.

I didn't go to the open filk either night because I was pooped, but I understand Toyboat held forth nicely on Friday. If I get to Cap (which I'd like to), I'll do more at the filk. Next Windy, I damn sure will. ;)

How's your con, or non-con weekend?

I never do non-con. Safe, sane, and conse.... Oh. Nevermind.

More seriously: Friday night, went to the conference dead-dog (unusually sedate; I played a game of 1000 Blank White Cards). Collapsed around 1am (PST).

Saturday, slept in 'til 8:30am for the first time all week, finished packing, and flew back home from the San Diego conference. About a 50 Fahrenheit-degree delta-T. Sat next to a maybe-22 year-old Marine returning from Iraq and a maybe 60-something ex-Top Gun retired Navy pilot; our flight attendant's been doing this for 33 years and had a delightfully sassy attitude. Got home, unpacked, updated the expense report, sorted (but faled to process) the previous 8 days' postal mail, and collapsed.

Sunday (today), tried to reshift time zones. Need to process the postal mail and the backlog of email, try to catch up on eljay instead of making the "bankrupt my pants" posting, write my expense and trip reports, do lots of laundry, possibly grocery shop, and prepare to wake up at 7am (4am unshifted bioloigcal) tomorrow.

I sit here, still recovering from the bronchitis that canceled my sleep apnea surgery on Thursday. I am bummed about it, now a couple more months of lack of good sleep.

The steroids seem to be kicking a good amount of the bronchitis out. Lots of productive coughing. See, they cannot give me Mucinex, as I have an issue with it giving me bronchitis. I have some of the weirdest allergic reactions. The CPAP masks makes my face break out, blister, crack, bleed, etc. Mucinex give me bronchitis (or makes it worse). Tetnus is the only normal allergic reaction which is high fever, shakes, and being lethargic.

Oh well, time for some homemake waffles for breakfast.

Yesterday I spent part of the afternoon at a rally at the Georgia State Capitol building to fight the idiocy of California's Proposition 8. This was part of a group of rallies that occurred simultaneously in the continental United States with over a million people attending at one venue or another.

Last night the Middle Earth Rocketry Society discussed "sidekicks," which devolved into a discussion of the genres, followed by a dinner at the Rose of India restaurant (decent Indian food)

Just lovely. Yummy Italian food, hot tubbing in view of the Seattle skyline, Tricky Pixie, and all with a beautiful woman at my side. Today I think we shall go find a beach. :)

My con weekend is next weekend; Ory should be a blast. I hear rumors that Kitten Sundae will be up (TrickyPixieVixyTony)... much awesomeness there alone.

Coping with California fires. Not near my house but have many affected friends, some of whom I was going to visit today but don't want to risk getting stranded. Homebrewing group meeting + iffy road conditions = Nope.

On the other hand, times like these really point up what a family Fandom can be. Large, spread out, dysfunctional... but family.

Just wanted to say that the afternoon concert ROCKED! The energy level in the room was great, not to mention the attendance was also good, and you sir, were of great voice and the choice of songs was excellent.

Glad to see you onstage again.

Bad weekend so far; studying for a calculus final. I really need to get to more cons, but this weekend wouldn't work anyway. I haven't been to one since OVFF, and have no firm con attendance plans until Penguicon.

with too many months 'till your back again,
when you're heading home from the con,
heading home from the con..."

I have had an absolutely excellent Windycon. This is the first time I've made it back to a Chicago con in about 3 years, and I had many wonderful friends come in for the con with me (from 3 parts of the country!), not to mention the friends I regularly see at cons.

The only scheduled thing I was determined to do at this con was make it to your concert, and I did so. I even brought along at least 3 people who had never heard you before, and they were all greatly impressed by the end of it. ^_^ [livejournal.com profile] genetikayos, [livejournal.com profile] coldironkiss, and [livejournal.com profile] phluxisgod had just as good a time as I did, and [livejournal.com profile] phluxisgod seemed just as happy as I was that you played "Dervish" - that is definitely at least in the top 3 favorites for me. ^_^ As we left, [livejournal.com profile] coldironkiss announced that she definitely needed to get some of your music.

It was really good to get to see you on stage again, Tom.

Great Concert

I had a great time at Windy, sold enough books to help with my share of the hotel room. I enjoyed your afternoon concert a lot--I'm so glad that you're back in the saddle again.

The reason I asked you about the origin of your song, Dervish, is that, while I was listening to it, I began to toy with your characters and thought about how interesting it would be to do a short story about them--say, at the height of their careers as mercenary assassins. Do they, by any chance, have names and would you mind if I worked on that story?

I returned home to find that "Closing-time Girl" had earned a nice, juicy, rejection email from Strange Horizons. No biggie--time to go over the list and see who gets to read it next. If I have time before "Heroes" tonight, I'll put the finishing touches on the gay werewolf story for the anthology and send it off.

Allie and I have been looking into Project Wonderful for button ads--thinking of a one-week button blitz on QC and/or GG to get folks to my website for the December special.

In any case, my next con's Chambanacon, which should be good both from an artistic and a financial standpoint, since my costs to go are minimal. Jody Lyn Nye is the GoH, so I may finally get to sit down and talk to her for a while without either of us ending up late for something we have to be at.

Anyway, enjoy the book. Hope to see you at Cap.

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. No, I don't mind, although I'd want you to put the proper credit for the story somewhere in there. If you do write it, e-mail me, and I'll figure out how precisely to word it.

Grog, arrr!

Finally found someplace that offered Grog on the menu (it was a pub in jolly old England). Had to try it. Delightful, although I think I'd make it a bit less lemony. Doubly fun, as it came just after the halloween cat show, when I was (of course) a pirate . . .

I saw Endeavor take off. I was in Titusville with a big bunch of people. 86 degrees during the day getting down there with my friend from Daytona Beach. Mid 70's at launch time. This is probably the last night time Shuttle launch. Long drive there, long drive back. Three nights in motels cost me no more than a two-night room share at an SF con.
