I saw this earlier, after which I noted to myself that it's time to retire the rickroll altogether; it's hit its absolute potential peak.

Yeah. After that, it's done. Seriously. It can't be topped, and I don't wanna see anyone try.

Only one person has the opportunity to top this: Barak Obama. On January 20th.

I saw this in Wil Wheaton's twitterstream first, only because I loaded Twitter before LJ. I was dying laughing, and then I had to explain to my nephew what a "rickroll" is before he could understand why this was funny.

If you're gonna get rickrolled, best it should be by Rick! Astley hasn't gotten this kind of publicity in 20 years, cheers to him for being a good sport and joining the fun.

I agree. There can be no better RickRoll than an actual "live" one.

Wow. I literally laughed out loud.

It's so cool that he has a sense of humor about this whole phenomenon. If some song by Prince had caught on instead of Astley's one you know Symbol Boy would just be a prick about it.

Foster's House of Imaginary Friends! Now I wish I'd watched the parade.

While this means the Rickroll has officially jumped the shark, it was a great way to go out! We actually turned off the parade about 5 minutes before it happened. Ah well, that's why they invented Youtube...

It was so great - my housemate found a link to footage earlier today, and insisted I drop what food prep I was doing to come watch. I started squeeing and jumping around like a little girl. Rick Astley was my first pop-star crush when I was 12 years old, and that song will never get old to me.

What was also great is that I called my mom about half an hour ago, and she mentioned that she had emailed me a link to that float/act. She had no idea of the concept of rickrolling - she just knew I'd been a fangirl and so she thought of me when she saw Astley start performing.

I was at the convenience store next to the hotel when Donna called me up and told me "THEY JUST RICKROLLED THE MACY'S PARADE!" :-)

Okay, maybe it's sad, but I actually LIKE the song Rick sings.....

It's not sad! Hell, it was nominated for a Grammy the year it was released - it just had the misfortune of being up against Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", which ended up sweeping that year.

Wow, this is pretty big. May be the biggest Rick Roll ever up to this point; seems fitting that Astley himself would be the one to pull it off. Pop culture is a strange mistress. It can elevate the most unlikely of people to superstardom and give people like Mr. Astley and Journey a shot at a second go-round.

That said, I'm glad they decided to put that together for this year's parade. We needed some epicness this holiday season.

You know what? You should do a song about Rick Rolling in the style of Rick Astley.
