Sadness. My best friend in early adulthood was the voice of Cobra Commander. Sadly, he died in 1994 while I was away, serving in the Navy. He will be missed. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0490383/

Yeah, though to me, he was Chris Collins. I didn't know about GI Joe, or Transformers for almost 6 months. Chris taught me everything I know about stand up, and a few other things. I used to go with him on Monday's to the Comedy Store on Sunset, in LA. I'd often watch his car while he was on stage. He had his name on the wall there.

One night, we watched an altercation behind the club. Sam Kinison was trying to collect on an old cocaine debt, owed to him by another comic. Mitzi banned Sam from the club - until the next time his name was in the papers. Then, all was forgiven.

Chris would tell me about the movies he was auditioning for, and stuff. I got to read a few scripts before they were made into movies. Sometimes, they'd just give him a few pages. I think those were the ones he was reading for. He'd get whole scripts for things he was in.

He helped me a lot. He basically wrote my act. He used his influence to make connections for me, get me gigs. It was at this point that I realized that I was only doing stand up because Chris was my hero. I had to find my own way, not take his just because I admired and loved him so much. I wasn't going to be able to sustain that without his constant help and guidence.

I decided to join the Navy. Chris was upset about that. He thought I was making a huge mistake. He died while I was serving in Michigan, at the Naval Air Facility, Branch Medical Clinic Detroit, on Selfridge Air National Guard Base, in Mt. Clemens, Mi. It was 1994. A good mutual friend told me. I was devastated. I'd missed the funeral and everything. No one told me.

It still really, really bothers me to this day that I never got to tell him that I was happy, or that it had all worked out well. I had no way to get a hold of him or Judith (his wife). I still haven't talked to Judith, though I don't think she would remember me. She might - I'd come over to his house, we'd swim in his pool, he'd teach me about cooking. His kids were a riot. I remember his son running around the house naked while Chris yelled at him to put some clothes on. That same evening, Chris taught me how to cook short ribs.

I know that I am still sober today because of Chris. He helped me a lot. Helped me to stay sober when I was a messed up, early 20's something young adult. I will never forget him. He was my best friend.

He sounds like a great man. So how can he do the "it's not my fault you idiots!" rant that made Cobra Commander and Starscream so memorable? I've seen about every English Transformer series. A few had a Starscream character but no one ever did the voice as well as the original. He made the lines what they were.

"Stick this in your bright side"
"Attack attack!" [boom] "Retreat retreat!"
[to Unicron's head who commanded Starscream to make the final connection] "Do it yourself!"
"This is the world. Everything is for sale."
and my favorite
"Pathetic fools! There is no escape."

He really was very talented.

No. No, John McCain can't be Destro. Because that would make either Cindy McCain or Sarah Palin the Baroness. And NEITHER of them is the Baroness. ::mad::

I am attracted to the Baroness. Not so much to Sarah Palin. Ergo, Sarah Palin is not the Baroness.
