Watchmen Exclusive

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drzarron. PLEASE, let Fox not screw everybody over on the rights, and let the movie be as good as it looks....

It's got potential. But personally I'm trying not to get too hyped up so I can go watch it more or less 'neutral' and not expecting a masterpiece. I want to be wow-ed by a movie again.

Unfortunately, I think Fox will screw everybody over since they got the rights recently and their lawyer announced they will seek a delay for the film.

The music on the trailer (and yes, I'm well aware they often use pre-existing music from other films etc. for trailers) starts off with what sounds like Philip Glass (possibly Aknahten) and then moves into something that sounds a bit like Muse (but probably isn't) ... does anyone recognise that music (it comes back at the end of the trailer)

I'm betting that the two parties will settle out of court and Fox will get a cut of the movie's profits, whether they actually deserve it or not.

According to a blog post by Drew McWeeney (aka Moriarity on Aintitcoolnews.com) on his new site hitwise.com, it sounds like Fox actually wants perpetual rights to another property that WB owns and is using this as the ultimate in leverage. Haven't been able to figure out which particular one he's talking about...

It's the Adam West Batman, currently tied up in a legal snarl: WB/DC owns the characters, Fox owns the series. If Fox traded their interest in Watchmen for the right to release the old Batman series on DVD, I think it could be a win/win situation, but I'm not sure Warner's gonna go for it. (I'm also not sure how extensive Fox wants those perpetual rights to be -- obviously Warner isn't going to jeopardize future films in the Batman Begins/Dark Knight series. But from what I've heard, it's JUST the DVD rights to the Batman TV show they're after.)

Could you do something about this video so it doesn't play automatically when the page loads, perhaps? I'm reading off my friends' page, which is long, have no interest in a Watchmen trailer, and was rather startled when my friends' page loaded and creepy music I couldn't pinpoint and eliminate right away started playing at me. I sort of had a flashback to about 1996, when every asshole with a Geoshitties account had a little MIDI player on their site.

? I'm not doing anything. It doesn't play automatically when it loads on my system. I can put it behind a cut for the sake of my main LJ page.

It's not you, there's an option somewhere in his browser that is checked on for "Automatically play video and audio." I check here in different computers using different browsers and only the ones with that option turned on play the videos when the page loads.

Looks great, true...but I'm not getting my hopes up. One, I just don't see how they're going to translate the book into a simple, 2 hour movie. And two, they've changed the ending and made it a bit "happier". That never bodes well.

Happier? What? I've heard they replaced the...*ahem* you-know-what that ends up you-know-where, but I can't fault them for that; I can see how moviegoing audiences might find it a little silly, and the moment is terrifying enough without an actual you-know-what. But how on Earth are they making the ending happier? Frankly, it already seems about as...happy, if that's the word...as it can get.

No, it doesn't. I will try to go in with as few expectations as possible, but it won't be easy as I've wanted this on screen for 20 years.
