"All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own Leonard Nimoy!"

I love that show.

Now there's an old-school nerd reference. I remember that floating around the Web in the mid 90s, and I'd be surprised if it hadn't surfaced on Usenet earlier.

Thanks for backing me up on that. I've been referencing that for years and people always looked at me funny. Now that it's been on that show, it's suddenly the big thing. Good to know I'm not the only one who remembered it from back when.

Yes, I remember it as well. I never managed to get anyone to play, though, because I could never remember the extra interactions.

The Big Bang Theory

This became my absolute most favoritest show of all time from the first episode! I usually try to explain it to people as "Friends" for geeks. I have seen a version of Rock Paper Scissors that incorporates more that a dozen options, but I think 5 works best.

I've started watching Big Bang Theory. It's the first new sitcom I've seen in years that makes me laugh on a regular basis. I even nominated the episode with the Time Machine replica for the Dramatic Presentation Short Form Hugo.

Ideas have been floated about a scissors-paper-rock-lizard-Spock tournament as a Fencon panel. Nothing's settled yet though.

I watched the series pilot, and then had to give it up in favor of Chuck because at the time I only had a VCR. NOW I own a DVR and can record both and watch Sarah Connor Chronicles on another DVR in the house - damn schedule conflicts. But I have caught up almost all the episodes finally. At first I was afraid the show would just make fun of geeks all the time, cruelly, but now I see it makes fun of the mundane side of the coin too!

It started off as Pretty Normal Woman vs. the Geeks but it's slowly sliding into Geeks, Each Different, Let Mundane Girl Play in their Clubhouse.

With occasional bursts of being Sheldon, His Asperger's Syndrome, and the People Who Somehow Like Him Anyway.

I saw 1 or 2 episodes and thought it came down awfully heavy on the side of making fun of geeks, so I quit watching it. Maybe I'll check it out again.

I'll have to re-visit that decision myself as I came to the same conclusion you did.

My wife likes the show oddly because she tells me that my friends and I sometimes act that way. :-/

i really despise american sitcoms. the live-action ones, anyway. i find them absolutely UNfunny. they elicit nary a chuckle from me.

but, on the recommendation of a mathematics professor-friend of mine, i watched an episode of BIG BANG THEORY last week. i actually laughed...a little. i will watch another episode to see if this condition continues.

My sister - as unfannish as anyone - is the one who got me watching BBT. (She has an Asperger's son, who makes Sheldon look like a poised and socialized human being.)

Not surprised that it's so good -- created by the same guy who did "Dharma and Greg," which was awesome in its first couple of years. This is "Freaks and Geeks" after graduation - clearly laughs at the geeks from the geek side of the fence.

"Kripke's robot just had angry sex with a mid-sized automobile!" might just be my favorite quote so far.

I've been watching it since it started. I record it on my DVR (along with about a million other shows) but it's the only one I watch twice, and sometimes three times. And I will buy the DVDs someday.

Even tho I don't understand all the science they refer to, I get enough of it to make it funny. And I love that the guys are comic book, Star Trek and Star Wars fans, too.

Favorite line was when Sheldon said he couldn't watch the "Star Wars Clone" movie before he watched the TV shorts (or was that the other way around?) "I need to let George Lucas disappoint me in the order that he intended." That was in the "rock paper scissors lizard spock" episode, I think.

It started out as a "Leonard and his friends" series, but a lot of the focus has gone to Sheldon, which makes me happy. I love him!

Be sure to pause on the commentary just before the end credits.
