On one hand, that really sucks. He was a great actor and I always liked watching him.

On the other hand, I didn't know he was still alive, so good on him.

And, on the gripping hand, I'm very glad he doesn't have to deal with lung cancer any longer.

DAMMIT. ENOUGH ALREADY, LUNG CANCER. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

RIP, Mr. Whitmore. You were a class act.

One of the great character actors ... really one of the best.

He was definitely one of the greats. I used to wish I could grow tomatoes in my apartment just so I could try Miracle Grow.

I saw him do "Harry" on the stage. Laughed my butt off - and I was 10 or 11 and knew very little about the man going in. To this day I think of Whitmore, not HST himself, when I read about him.

He also did a kickass Will Rogers - got an ovation just for getting the trademark Will Rogers slouch just right.

First Kim Manners, now Whitmore. Look, y'all, stop with the damn smoking.

That's not the only way to develop it. My mother never smoked, and she died in November of lung cancer. She lasted around the same length of time between diagnosis and death as Kim.

Smoking certainly doesn't help, and I loathe is so I certainly wish folks would do less of it, but the stigma attached to lung cancer bothers me, probably understandably. You didn't go the "you deserve to get lung cancer if you smoke" route, and I really do appreciate that. I just try to get folks to bear in mind that it isn't always smoking that does it, and that even if it does, no one deserves to die like this.
