Recovery.gov
Feb. 17th, 2009 01:20 pmRemember I mentioned that there was going to be a web site showing where the money in the new economic stimulus program goes? It's live. Looks like a lot of detail, and apparently frequent updates. The FAQ section has a lot of interesting info as well.
Government transparency. Here's hoping.

Date: 2009-02-17 06:34 pm (UTC)I said, "You can read the whole thing online."
She said, "I heard that there's something in there banning homeschooling."
I said, "If there were, it'd be all over everything by now."
Then again, her son is the person who said that Hawaii is in Africa.

Date: 2009-02-17 07:31 pm (UTC)I sure hope not. That is my one worry about the Democratic Party. Our family homeschools, using somewhat unconventional methods, and I came to the conclusion long ago that if I want the right to determine and follow what I feel is the best education plan for my child, I need to support the rights of the religious wingnuts to do the same, and sadly, the Repubs cater to that minority better than the Dems.

Date: 2009-02-17 07:43 pm (UTC)But I honestly don't think it's in there. WND would have been all over it by now if it were. Simply putting "homeschooling" and "stimulus bill" into Google only comes up with budgeting things with public schools.

Date: 2009-02-17 09:35 pm (UTC)It'd be interesting to have each expenditure also be tagged with the year (and date) it was approved, the name of the approval, bill, or legislation which approved it (with links to the original text), the people (and their districts) who voted for and against it, and the president at the time it was approved.
It'd hopefully cut down on arguments about who approved what and when.
Include information about who people can write to (representatives etc) to comment on that particular bill, expenditure, or bit of legislation.
Maybe then people will be able to get an overall impression of exactly what their government is doing.
