Remember I mentioned that there was going to be a web site showing where the money in the new economic stimulus program goes? It's live. Looks like a lot of detail, and apparently frequent updates. The FAQ section has a lot of interesting info as well.

Government transparency. Here's hoping.

My republican, Rush-listening, grandmother was whining about how she couldn't believe that there was no transparency in this stimulus bill.

I said, "You can read the whole thing online."

She said, "I heard that there's something in there banning homeschooling."

I said, "If there were, it'd be all over everything by now."

Then again, her son is the person who said that Hawaii is in Africa.

I sure hope not. That is my one worry about the Democratic Party. Our family homeschools, using somewhat unconventional methods, and I came to the conclusion long ago that if I want the right to determine and follow what I feel is the best education plan for my child, I need to support the rights of the religious wingnuts to do the same, and sadly, the Repubs cater to that minority better than the Dems.

This is true. I looked into homeschooling for my kids, and fully support it. (I chose not to for various reasons.)

But I honestly don't think it's in there. WND would have been all over it by now if it were. Simply putting "homeschooling" and "stimulus bill" into Google only comes up with budgeting things with public schools.

This...is a lot better than I hoped for. I'm going to wait and see exactly how granular the detail is though.

But yeah this is much better than the previous administration.

I haven't looked through it in depth yet, but apparently there's going to be a lot of detail by congressional district. If they keep up with that, I'm going to be very impressed.

Wait, where's the part showing how much of this money is being redirected to the secret crashed UFO recovery project which is attempting to reverse engineer the technology in the hopes of patenting all the discoveries thereby preventing any other company from coming up with any non-oil based transportation technology??

Transparency my ass.

If anyone knows where I can find the part of the bill (if it survived, which is what I'm trying to find out) that allows first time home buyers to lock in a rate of 4% and possibly get a tax credit, please let me know where that is. I am at work, and can't really justify spending more than 15 minutes on the search - that's my break, and I did exclusively search for that for 15 minutes... I just can't find it.

Grr... My wife and I missed last year's Home Buyer tax credit by one stinking month. We got first time buyer stuff on our return but since we bought February 28th of last year not April we missed out on the rest of it. Bah!

It'd be nice to have a similar site showing where all government spending went.

It'd be interesting to have each expenditure also be tagged with the year (and date) it was approved, the name of the approval, bill, or legislation which approved it (with links to the original text), the people (and their districts) who voted for and against it, and the president at the time it was approved.

It'd hopefully cut down on arguments about who approved what and when.

Include information about who people can write to (representatives etc) to comment on that particular bill, expenditure, or bit of legislation.

Maybe then people will be able to get an overall impression of exactly what their government is doing.
