Chicago northshore. Should be a grand ol' time as usual -- [livejournal.com profile] billroper and [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, [livejournal.com profile] catalana, [livejournal.com profile] lukeski and [livejournal.com profile] dement1a, [livejournal.com profile] ericcoleman, [livejournal.com profile] min0taur and Sally and [livejournal.com profile] harperjen and [livejournal.com profile] tollers, [livejournal.com profile] singlemaltsilk and [livejournal.com profile] janmagic and [livejournal.com profile] jrittenhouse and [livejournal.com profile] shsilver and [livejournal.com profile] mstrhypno [livejournal.com profile] barbarakitten_t and [livejournal.com profile] tcgtrf and everybody. I have a set tonight at 8:00 p.m. in Ravinia A (after which is the Open Filk in the same room), and one in Botanic Garden A (the CapriCon Cafe) Saturday at 4:45 p.m. Ideally, I shall avoid the snow for travel's sake; if not, well, Super 8 is comfy and cheap.

What are your plans for the weekend?

I might stop by the con on Saturday depending on the weather as up to 10 inches of snow is possible.

I live in Wheaton and they're not saying we're getting that much snow. But then I'm from Iowa and I laugh at anything under 6".

I thought about going to this con, but I try to restrict myself to 2 cons a year. I also have to do some self examination sometime and decide how I'm going to spend my time (what I should be doing vs what I am doing).

Since the con is near the lake, they might get additional snowfall as opposed to us in DuPage county. For my area, they say 6-8 possible.

My concern is not about me as I have driven through Chicago winters for 20 years but the other people on the road.

I hear you on the other drivers, but you also have to be aware of your own limitations. Since you've driven through 20 Chi-town winters, I'm sure you know how to best drive. Just don't get overconfident. Risk of overconfidence is the price for experience.

I checked on google maps where it was. It's near my friend's house in Palatine. I'm not sure if I'd call it "near the lake", but that's irrelevant since I haven't lived near the lack since moving to Chi-town and I have little credibility to say what's near and what isn't.

Drive safely and I hope you have a good time.

Housefilk in Jersey City to mark the return to NYC of Dave Weingart and of Jordan Mann. Must find the lyrics to "Blacksmith of Brandywine" as Feb. 22 is George Washington's actual birthday and I like to do a theme song at every housefilk.

Here's a version (http://www.calonsong.org/CalontirSongs/blacksmithsong.htm). Not exactly the same as Julia sang. Wait, here's the version Julia sang (http://indepos.comicgenesis.com/d/20050513.html)! :D

Actually, Feb 22nd is George Washington's adjusted birthday. George adjusted it in his lifetime as the modern Gregorian calander was finally adapted in the colonies. He added the 11 day adjustment to the (old calander) Feb 11th.

I thought I'd go to this convention about five miles from where I work in Libertyville, IL. I hear there are some good concerts there ...

(One of the first people I saw when I stopped in yesterday to drop off some artwork and pick up my badge was [livejournal.com profile] ericcoleman)

No filk, *per se*, but I don't doubt I'll see a bunch of filkers at the Bone Poets' Sneak Preview (which is, Lady willing, Far Away from Snow) on Saturday, and then brunch with another lovely lady who branded herself a filker by showing up at Conflikt 2...

And Super 8 can be hit or miss (consult your AAA travelguide) but I've yet to find a Motel 6 that isn't as advertised...

I'm at the Super 8. With AAA, $44 plus tax a night. New bed. I'm good.

I've had very good luck lately with Super 8. Their internet always works, they've been renovating and usually have new beds, and the rooms often have a microwave and a mini-fridge.

Along those lines, I've stayed in a few Travelodges that were quite nice... there was even one that had an in-room jaccuzi tub for a mere $11 upcharge. (Marin County, the name of the exact place escapes me but it's between Sausolito and Larkspur...)

Tonight, heading out to Convocation for Steve Macdonald's concert, and to see Allen and Amanda. (Don't know if they have the kids with them.)

Saturday, the Dessert Revel at [livejournal.com profile] jenhoyer and [livejournal.com profile] nottheface's house. Yum.

Sunday, taking my mother, who has a bad case of cabin fever, out to lunch and a movie.

Full, but all in good ways.

I may regret saying this later, but I'm not so sure there's going to be snow around Capricon. According to weather.com's site the snow is on the eastern part of the Dakotas and it's more like a line than a blob. The good news is that Tom should have a safe drive through Chicago (lots of luck fighting the traffic though). Any snow Chicagoland gets should be late in the evening, if it comes at all.

I have to confirm it's still happening but a friend of mine's Irish wake is supposed to be happening there this weekend. (She used to throw a room party there - The Lunatic Cafe.)

If it's still scheduled then yes I'll likely stop by the filk rooms while I'm there. (I can't afford to fully attend the con unfortunately. :-| )
