Mostly well deserved. Although I actually think it's kind of unfair to target Paris Hilton for playing a knock-off of Paris Hilton, or rag on Pierce Brosnan for not being able to sing songs by ABBA.

Uwe Boll, on the other hand....

Thoughts?

Agreed on Paris Hilton. I genuinely like Repo! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963194/), and Paris did well in the role. Granted, it's not far from her publicly expected norn, but that only made it easier to see her in the part. And some of us like the husky, breathy style she was singing in... it reminds me of Madonna playing Breathless Mahoney. :)

Agreement here, as well - at least, in Repo!. I didn't think the movie clicked - tho' there were some wonderful individual scenes where you really can go, "okay, this is what they were going for, and it is awesome" - but Paris wasn't even the biggest misfire in the film. (For example, I think the two actors playing her character's brothers delivered even less than she did.)

(The two most awesome scenes for me were the shooting gallery drug alley and the scene with Anthony Stewart-Head calling his doctor while he's in mid-repo, and they're both trying to convince each other that they're not where they actually are and not doing what they're actually doing.)

Her publicly expected norn would probably lead to Ragnarok in Hollywood.

Well, I still think it's disrespectful calling Uwe Boll "Germany's Answer to Ed Wood" (poor Ed deserves a much better comparison) but, yeah, Boll has certainly earned his lifetime dis-achievement award!

Yeah -- I think Ed Wood was sincerely trying and motivated by desire to express his art (Ghu help us), whereas Uwe Boll is just a hack.

Ditto on tainting Ed Wood's name. Ed loved what he was doing, there was a very real affection for all his B-actors, and there's a raw honesty in his films you don't often get with better-quality Hollywood films.

Absolutely on both counts. Boll sucks, and Ed Wood doesn't need the negative rub -- he was an inept artist, but by FSM he was an artist.

See, Paris Hilton isn't an actress and to her credit doesn't claim to be one. So giving her a bad acting award just isn't fair. Especially when people keep trying to make us believe Renee Zellweger and Reese Whitherspoon can act.

Don't know about Ms. Whitherspoon, but Reese Witherspoon can act and did a fine job in Pleasantville.

I thought Pierce did a fine job, for a man who doesn't so much sing as moo. He nonetheless pitched in with great enthusiasm, and stayed on pitch.

I've never seen the play, but I'm just relieved that they gave Brosnan as little singing as they could get away with. Because other than the signing, I thought he did a perfectly good job. (Plus, I just really liked the movie.)
