I haven't actually seen it yet -- most likely Tuesday evening.

No spoilerage... not really much to spoil.

Not as good as the first, but wildly enjoyable. Several true Nergasm moments. Stay all the way through to the end of the credits.

I hugely enjoyed the first film; this one is a decent sequel which gave me a fair bit of enjoyment in its own right. Nice amount of humor, the CGI action sequences were a bit frenetic but still a far cry from the over-the-top, overblown, special effects sequences dominating movies today. Downey is just *such* a great choice to play this role--I would go see it just for him.

And, yes, another surprise at the very end of the credits.

No spoilers here, either. Lots of fun. Downey is a joy to watch, and gets good support from Paltrow, Cheadle, Rourke, Rockwell, Johannson, Favreau, and others. I even thought the plotting was better than the first movie.

Really enjoyed it with one quibble.

I really didn't believe in Justin Hammer as a brilliant industrialist. Had we seen more of an "anything to win" side of him earlier in the film, and known that his "I'm such a goofy guy" act was just a public veneer, his actions later in the film would have made more sense. A little rewriting of the Senate hearing and the scenes in Monaco would have done the trick.

Rourke was amazing as usual. Having Ivan own a pet bird was his idea. He saw there was little to the character beyond the vengeance plot, so he suggested the bird as a humanizing aspect.

The Easter Egg was extremely cool. Can't wait for that movie!

I thought it was pretty obvious that Justin Hammer's "I'm a goofy guy" act was just that--his jealousy (and the mutual, thinly disguised when at all, hatred the rivals had for one another) was pretty obvious.

I liked it better than the first movie--the twists in the final fight scene were set up very nicely, and without the timing gaffes in the original movie's fight scene. But both movies were quite good.

If any of the physics graduate students that I work with EVER focusses a laser the way that Tony did, I will Personally Spank Their Butts Dope-Slap them Upside the Head like Naughty Toddlers caught playing with matches -- oooh, I soooooo wanted to stop him from doing that!

And this former laser safety officer would fully support your actions. Aiming the laser at the flammables cabinet is CONTRA-INDICATED!

I've heard similar reviews and hope to see it this week with some friends. I have to wonder if it "wasn't as good" as the first movie has to do with it being a sequel or if it was because it didn't have the origin story. Or to put it another way if the Captain America movie did NOT have his origin story as a focus of the plot and instead had him fighting Nazis from the opening sequence would it still be as good.

Just got back from it ... it's very very good. Great geek moments, the director must be a Howard Hawks fan. I think I may like it better than the first, and I loved the first.

Can I just say I am so damn amused that you put up a post calling for spoilers before seeing the film?

And no, I haven't read any of the posts. I won't see it 'till later in the week as well.

Good movie, although I missed a bunch of the first act because my grandson got sick to his stomach and we had to call his aunt to come get him at the theater. So I missed most of the Yuri backstory, the buildup to the contamination tests, and the Senate hearing. When my daughter (who saw it at the midnight premiere) told me what happened during the Senate scene, suddenly the dialog at the end with the medal made a great deal more sense and became funnier.

Overall, the movie was decent as a superhero action flick. There were a few things that irritated me, though.

I really didn't believe in Hammer as being even moderately intelligent, period. To me, he had a vibe of "I inherited this business from my father and I haven't managed to screw it up yet" (basically, Tony Stark without the charisma and brilliance in R&D). I didn't read the comics so I have no idea of his actual backstory, but that's how he came off.

How did Vanko manage to create another suit without anyone noticing? You can't tell me that Hammer (dumb as he appeared) didn't have him under 24/7 surveillance.

I thought that the bit with the bird had the potential to go somewhere and then it kind of fizzled. (Why did Vanko just let it go when Hammer tried to pawn another bird off on him?)

Do not engage in close combat with the guy whose best weapons only work at close range. Sheesh, guys.

Was it the same bird, or not? I couldn't decide whether Vanko was f'ing with Hammer or not. Hammer (presumably) knows, but is he humoring Vanko's insanity or what? Or is Hammer asking himself if the hirelings *did* get the bird or not...

I don't think we were supposed to view Hammer as a "brilliant industrialist"; but rather as a guy who was good at claiming credit for other people's work (which is what he does with both War Machine and Vanko, IMHO). As a side note, this Hammer isn't very close to his comic book counterpart (again, IMHO).
