Date: 2009-03-19 03:35 am (UTC)I'm wondering, though, if she didn't have a problem (maybe an aneurysm or a stroke) that caused her fall, rather than the fall causing her injury. I doubt if we'll ever know.

Date: 2009-03-19 09:49 am (UTC)My grandmother was taken to the hospital on Friday in bad shape. One of the things noted was a discoloration in her eyes. This was described as pinkeye and nothing more thought about it.
Monday morning, she suffered a massive stroke. The infarc(?) basically took out 80-90% of the left hemispere. She's paralyzed on the right side and the artery leading from the brain to the left side of her body is completely blocked. She is going to die, just a question of when. The docs are talking in terms of days, maybe weeks. Everyone in the family does not think she will make it to the weekend.
The "pinkeye" was not that. It was a sign of brain bleed that was missed. These things happen quickly. She was talking to my aunt Monday morning @ 10 and she was fine. 12:10p the hospital called my aunt and told her she needed to get over there right away.
At the age of 87, if things had been caught sooner would the outcome be different. Who knows. But it is the matter of CATCHING it as soon as possible that matters.
