Sadness. Detroit Tiger Hall of Fame baseball player and television broadcast legend George Kell has passed away at the age of 86. Hell of a voice, hell of a player, hell of a nice guy.
Very sad about this. I know its been years since George, Al and Ernie were on the airwaves...but I still hear their voices sometimes when watching games. No one else compares. Class acts all around.
Here is Terry Cashman's Talkin' Tiger Baseball from 1981, where he mentions George Kell as one of the ones to remember. VINTAGE VERSION Detroit Tigers Talkin Baseball Tiger Stadium
He must have been the announcer when I was a kid growing up in the sixties and seventies in Toledo...I can still hear his voice. I was a huge baseball fan when one of the current players had my name (Sandy, as in Koufax of course) - but since I was three when he retired, I wasn't real discriminating about it. Sadness. :(
