Hi and hugs to many of our dear friends, gathered at FIlkOntario right now. Heather Dale is the GOH, Urban Tapestry are the Filk Waifs, Gerry and Sandy Tyra are the Interfilk guests, and the Special Guest is Robert J Sawyer. If you're there with that bunch and not having a good time, you're actively trying not to.

I wish I could've made it this year, but it was not to be. I'll try again for next year. And, of course, later this evening we'll have the newest inductees into the Filk Hall of Fame.

What-all are you doing this weekend? I'm trying to get some music written; it's been awhile, and I've got to make some progress or I'll go crazy. Also a bit of kitchen-cleaning.

ETA: D'oh! Other friends are at other cons this weekend, such as [livejournal.com profile] wormquartet, [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn, [livejournal.com profile] unclekage and I think [livejournal.com profile] devospice up at ICon.

Oof. Don't give me a setup like that; it hurts not to, er, go for the punch.

As for what I'm doing? I officialy cancelled my trip to SF for a training class that's been on my to-take list for the past almost-year (and due to the delay in getting around to it, my employer is out about $500 of the $900-ish charge). I'm mostly trying to recover from the last four calendar weeks (on average across all four weeks, I worked 11.5 hours/day on one project that's supposed to get only 75% of my time). If I find my motivation I might go grocery shopping (I'm out of fresh produce and the pantry's a little barren), I might vacuum, I might clean the kitchen, and I might do a load of dark laundry. But odds are I'll do a lot of nothing and be a lazy slug all weekend.

I am working, and working and working. Then sleeping when not working. And of course its nice so far this weekend and I would love to be in the yard doing the mountain of work that waits for me there, but as long as the people who sign my check say work, I will work =p

The only chore-ish thing I actually have to do is return a shirt to Targét. (I don't have a receipt, so it will probably be more complicated than it needs to be...)

After that, since it's nice out, I'm probably going to go to the zoo with my camera.

I do have some convention prep and number crunching to do, but that can ALL be done outside of "normal" business hours. So, after I'm done goofing off for the day, I'll probably get to that.

Just got the recycle together, then it's packing up the nun's habit to go out to the cemetary for a music video shoot, then I'll probably spend a good chunk of the afternoon/evening making greater progress on my vinyl record collection catalog.

And it's sooo gorgeous out...

I thought I knew everything about the world of filk, with the exception of the goings-on at filk conventions as I've never been to one. I think this must come under that heading--what exactly is a "filk waif"?

FKO puts its filk waifs to work, though, introducing the other guests.

Urban Tapestry worked really hard, and were absolutely terrific waifs. Some other cons call this position Toastmaster.

Erica Neely, our waif for next year, comes with lots of experience in the role. We hope she does not fall off the stage, however, as she did at her last waif role. For anyone wondering, she was asked to be Waif for 2010 long before the Hall of Fame voting.

I've got a brief to finish, I'm prepping for a moot oral argument on Monday, and the usual handful of work for classes. Given that Passover is this week I'm going to try to get more work done sooner, rather than later.

Lessee. I'm gonna go get some stuff for my motorsickle (see icon), maybe buy a netbook, meet some good friends for dinner, and then hang on to my socks as Kitten Sundae (with nuts!) try to blow'em off... I'm packing spares, 'cause I don't wanna ride home barefoot. :) And then on Sunday I'm gonna let'em try again. :)

And *next* weekend is NorWesCon...

Monday next I expect to be either a freakin' dynamo of awesome, or totally brain-blown. But that's ok. I will have had fun getting that way. :) :)

I am running filk at I-CON this weekend and listening to Dr. Seti who is the GOH. Also, we have Flynn's Folly (Andrew of the Bards' new group).

Next year I-CON is NOT opposite FKO, which means I can look at attending both cons. (Unfortunately, I-CON is a week after Lunacon next year.)

I'm so bummed!

I can't take vacation this early after taking a day off for GaFilk (http://www.gafilk.org) to go this soon to another con. I get the impression I'll have to wait until either I win the lottery or retire from my job to go.

Morris and I are taking a FEMA Incident Management course as part of our Civil Air Patrol training. Of the 30+ people in the course, most of them are firefighters, there are 3 other CAP folks, and the final handful are various small town municipal officials.

MUST GET PASSPORT!!!

Or rather, replacement passport, as mine was either lost, damaged, or both a couple years ago, and I haven't found it in the last 2 moves, like I was hoping to.

Considering that somebody put FilkONtario the same weekend as Ad Astra, both in Toronto (http://sfwriter.com/2009/04/ad-astra-and-filkontario-same-weekend.html), I wonder what sort of prize or ribbon people will get for attending both.

And speaking of Rob Sawyer and cons the same weekend, Rob has more to say about that (http://sfwriter.com/2009/04/what-is-wrong-with-canadian-fandom.html).
