Even if I wasn't the first song on it (and [livejournal.com profile] marcgunn is in there as well), the April Fool's mash-up of It's A Frog's Life, Clever Little Pod, and Bell's In The Batfry is a lot of fun.

What podcasts are you listening to lately? They don't have to be music; I know [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear has been following a couple of very good photography and Photoshop ones, and the universe would be a little darker without some of NPR's shows, such as The Splendid Table, The News From Lake Wobegon, Car Talk, and Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me!

Audio:

Earth and Sky/Earth and Sky Clear Voices - interesting discussions on science, most of the shows are under two minutes. The Clear Voices series usually runs under ten minutes. http://www.earthsky.org/

Merriam-Websters' Word of the Day - http://www.merriam-webster.com/word/index.xml only about two to three minutes a day, a great way to enhance a vocabulary. Even when I know the word and it's meaning, it's interesting to learn the derivation/history of the word.

NPR: I listen to the "Story of the Day" http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=4819386 - they pick one of the more essential stories from their entire output for the day, as the title implies.

"the Sunday Puzzle" http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=4473090 - hosted by Wil Shortz, the editor of the NY Times Crossword Puzzles.

"This American Life" http://www.thisamericanlife.org/ - great audio documentary series.

"Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" - http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/ (a weekly comedic quiz show about the news...always funny).

and

"A Way With Words" - http://www.waywordradio.org/ a weekly discussion about words, their usage, etc. Always something interesting and funny.

Video:

Boing Boing TV - http://tv.boingboing.net/ it's sort of a human interest/world news/music blog and so much more in little 5 to 10 minute bites every day.

The Idiot Box - http://www.idiotboxers.tv/ This is our show, Paul is head writer/director. I'm one of the writers. You may enjoy it.

TED Talks - http://www.ted.org/ I love TED Talks. Lots of variety of topics. Speeches/presentations by some of the worlds greatest minds presenting their innovations.

No podcasts to mention here, but a question of curiosity: Being swamped at work, I didn't get to hear/watch your set on Tuesday — how'd it go? Is it available anywhere (and as video or just audio)?

Pretty well, all things considered. I'm trying to get some audio, and some video. [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear did a video cap, but no audio came through... but the comment board off to the side did. I thought I was having a lot of problems during the second half, but from the online chat I seemed to go over pretty well, and several of the same chatters were online later and told me I rocked pretty hard. And there were one or two of you guys on there hyping me, for which I thank you. :) And, I now know the name of the guy who books the place, so I'm going to try to get back there soon.

There was a bit of drama before hand: Rock Nation, which was supposed to be on at 8:30 (and was therefore supposed to be there at 7:30) started straggling in at 8:40. I was asked if I'd go on early, but I didn't have to, as Joey Spina (http://www.joeyspina.com) filled in wonderfully -- great voice, kind of a blend between Rob Thomas and Adam Duritz (Counting Crows). Anyway, a six-piece band shows up twenty minutes late for their thirty-minute set. Which is why they only got one song -- the point of the exercise was that it's an assembly line concert, get 'em up move 'em out. I felt bad for them... but not that bad. They should've been there on time, dammit. It was in big letters on the sign-up sheet.

Exactly.

You can only get away with acting like than when you're at the "International Superstar" level... and even then you shouldn't.

It'd kind of depend on their reasoning, I guess. If their band van had been in an accident, that'd be one thing. If they'd hit their snooze alarm seven-too-many times, I don't imagine they'll get invited back next year. Did they offer any excuse, to your knowledge?

Nope. Just trickled in. And then had problems with at least one of the guitars. And then argued with the producer. I understand that they were probably offered the chance to fill in if someone else couldn't show, but there was only a day and a half left and I wasn't there, so I don't know if they got any more time.

It varies. I usually listen to Wait Wait, a few philosophy and military history podcasts (especially Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - sometimes excellent, sometimes frustrating), and News from Lake Wobegone. Lately I've been listening to the Penny Arcade/PVP/Wil Wheaton D&D podcasts, which are good fun.

If I had to have a desert island podcast it would be QN (Quirky Nomads). She updates very regularly almost daily sometimes, but there is a wide variety of content from anecotes overheard on public trans in Toronto to games of storytelling/sound effects telephone (Circus of Mosquitoes) to serial radio plays and political commentary.

Lots of fun and one of those things i push on everyone I know with a relative level of success.

I LOVE Car Talk. and it was much to my amusement when the older kids realized that in Cars, the sponsors for Lightning McQueen (the Rust-eeze Medicated Bumper Ointment folks) were the guys from Car Talk.
