I think Bill From Portland, Maine, on Daily Kos, summed it up very well:

"It seems odd that members of the Republican netroots, who act like they're the badassest badasses on the planet, would get so excited about organizing little tea parties. (Pinkies up, girls!) When I stage my tax revolt against the government it's gonna be a fuckin' whiskey rebellion!"

A fine example of a demonstration was the Boston Tea Party, where outraged Americans disguised as Indians dumped British tea into the harbour. Later, Indians disguised as outraged Americans dumped actual British into the harbour. Following that, the British, disguised as tea, dumped each other into the harbour. Finally, German mercenaries clad only in costumes from The Trojan Women leapt into the harbour for no apparent reason.

(All hail Woody Allen.)

And I here did most of my swimming at East Sandwich!

No wonder everyone went into those coastal Massachusetts waters. Historically, they're might tasty!

Two things;

(1) I so did not need those images in my head.

(2) I wish I had enough good friends to dress up steampunk, come out with a lovely table, a perfect pot of tea and sandwiches and cookies. Then settle down in the area and smile with British superiority. "Oh, you mean it wasn't this sort of tea-party? Pity."

(3) So didn't need to visualize that.

Now that's funny.

The whole tea party thing is a mostly meaningless, symbolic gesture. Kind of like Earth Hour.

Interestingly enough, the majority of people participating in this have probably never drank a cup of tea in their LIFE!

Somewhere there's got to be a clip of Rachel Maddow's report and interview with Anna Marie Cox last night. It was the most hilarious thing I've seen in ages. Fantastic lines, like "Who wouldn't want to teabag John McCain?" delivered absolutely deadpan.
