All Right, All RIGHT, ALL RIGHT
Apr. 10th, 2009 01:06 pmI'm on Facebook. Here's my personal page, and here's my artist page -- at least, I think those are the addresses. Both embryonic, so please don't tell me yet what they're missing. I'm workin' on it.
Frankly, gang, given the amount of bullshit dealing with this psychotic interface and the fact that I can't seem to just give people a simple page, e.g., filkertom.livejournal.com or myspace.com/filkertom, this had better be worth it.
And I'm not even thinking yet about Dreamwidth....
ETA: Remember, gang, it's not merely resistance to the new. I have not been having a get-offa-my-lawn moment here. Facebook has had recurring problems with privacy and intellectual property rights, and every time they turn into Britney Spears. "Oops! I did it again."
Combine that with the lousy frickin' unintuitive maze that they try to pass off as an interface, and I can't figure out why anyone's there at all.
It seems, however, that that's where everyone is going. So, I'm there.
Murfle.

Now, to get you to do a live concert for Second Life. That interface is really psychotic but at least you have DJ Particle to help with that part. I got you an audience, get your happy butt in there.

UGLY took the "Which Dakota are you?" quiz, and got the result: North!

Date: 2009-04-10 06:40 pm (UTC)We could all subscribe to the group & you can "friend" only those whom you wish. In fact, I shall suspect you'd prefer that most of us did.
Good luck, & I won't try to clutter your page with my inane blatherings & goings on.

Date: 2009-04-10 09:07 pm (UTC)Dreamwidth sold me with two words. Journal Import.
Let me know if you need an invite code, I'm starting a list for when the site goes open beta.
Oh, and despite a few bugs, by following their "avoid our bugs" instructions I managed import all my journal entries, all my comments, all my userpics and my profile page. SO EASY.
Given LJ's inherent instability of ownership, signing up with a group that is run by people I'm friends with, in a way that I think is sustainable, I'm a cheerleader for Dreamwidth already.

Date: 2009-04-12 06:20 pm (UTC)But I still think I won't make the switch unless and until LiveJournal crashes completely. This place is far more polite than any other posting place I know of. Not only has Facebook got security problems, but I don't want to listen to kiddies rant. If I wanted to have my senses assaulted and my continued existence invalidated, I'd hang out in the chat rooms of Ain't It Cool News or Film Threat.

Date: 2009-04-11 01:19 am (UTC)When somebody posts a quiz, or a Top 5 List, or an "I found an egg!", or anything of that nature, you can do this:
1) Hover your cursor over the upper right corner of the post. You'll see a button that says "Hide".
2) Click on the button. This should give you 2 options -- Hide [person] and Hide [app]. Click on the second one, and you'll never see another post from that app again.
It makes a tremendous difference in the readability of Facebook to me. I've got a couple of friends who are quiz-happy, and if it weren't for this feature I'd be thinking about defriending them.
Also, you don't have to accept invitations to participate in any app-oriented activity. Just click the "Ignore" option.

Date: 2009-04-11 02:57 am (UTC)Actually, with all the talk about Twitter - let me point this out to you:
- You can set Twitter and TwitPic to your cellphone (text and pic updates)
- Your Tweets can update your Facebook status
- The daily Tweets can be collected and ported over to LiveJournal.
It's your decision, of course, but I figure I'd give you something to think about.
