Obviously, I need to see a lot more anime.

There are also a lot of movies missing here, such as Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Beowulf, Looney Tunes: Back In Action, The Plague Dogs, the Rankin-Bass Return of the King, Happily N'Ever After, and the real biggie, Allegro Non Troppo. Not to mention things like Jan Švankmajer's Alice and Faust, the Marvel direct-to-DVD moves such as Iron Man and Dr. Strange, at least two Smurf movies, and, well, a buttload more. What else do you think should be on the list?

ETA: Several more that should be on the list: The Ice Age films, Afro Samurai, Batman: Gotham Nights (if we're doing the Animatrix, we do that one), Disney's Three Musketeers and Christmas Carol, and, oh yeah, a little flick that came out last summer: Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And, bluntly, if they're counting things like the My Little Pony films, there are a slew of things like the Barbie direct-to-disk vids.

ETA2: If we have Mark Twain, why not I Go Pogo and The Little Prince?

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which I love. The Hanna Barbera movies of the 60s (Man Called Flintstone, Hey There, It's Yogi Bear and that bizarre Alice in Wonderland). The truckload of Disney sequels (though most are apparently awful - the third Aladdin was passable since Robin Williams came back). The DuckTales film. The Futurama DVD films.

And The Simpsons Movie. How is that one not on this list?

The list of anime films, with the exception of the Miyazaki category, is a bit odd to me. I can see at least half a dozen titles that I would only show to someone if I wanted to make them hate anime. The list reminds me that I need to re-watch Kiki's Delivery Service. It's been too long since I watched that one, and it always makes me smile.

I'm a bit surprised at some of your not-seens. Was Song of the South a conscious decision, or just lack of opportunity?

Here's a definite rec on the first American Tail and a see-but-not-must on the second. Also Howl's Moving Castle, provided you won't gnash your teeth when it is very not the book.

Missing: The Wind in the Willows (1983), the Wallace and Gromits other than ...Were-Rabbit (certainly the mid-length ones like The Wrong Trousers and A Matter of Loaf and Death), Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels, and six Asterix flicks. I've never seen any of the animated full-length Tintin movies, but I expect they should be listed, too.

I've got one or two of the Asterix films on VHS, but never got around to watching them. And I think the Wallace & Gromit ones wouldn't count because they're not full-length. And now I've gotta check.... yeah, Asterix and the Vikings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterix_and_the_Vikings) was released in 2006, and Red Nails (http://www.conanrednails.com/) is supposedly being released this year.

Don't forget "Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman."

Also, a movie that entertained and scared a lot of little kids when it was shown ad nauseum on HBO in the late 70s or early 80s, "Dot and the Kangaroo." That was the one that was a mix of classic animation and real photography, about a little girl lost in the Australian bush and the animals who help her get home. Indeed. It's one of my favorite Miyazaki films, and while I'm usually a "subtitles and Japanese audio please" purist, the dubs of the Miyazaki films have been extremely well done across the board.

Fantastic Planet- An early 70s French/ Czech film by the same people who did Light Years (Rene Laloux, Topor, Wul) VERY graphic (Not as graphic as Urotsukidoji, but graphic for its time)

That is a truly wonderful flick, innit? A lot of people think it's even better than Fantasia. I happen not to agree, but that's only because I think it's about on the same level. Fantasia wins by a hair, or more specifically by a Night On Bald Mountain. ;)

Just as an aside I'm actually very disappointed that they included Disney's Black Cauldron in the list. It was a terrible movie and the depths of my loathing for it cannot be described in mere words.

I think your comment on the "Dark Age" is off. Walt died in 1966. A quick Google turned up this page, which claims that Jungle Book was the last film he worked on.

Love Fantasia, and the new version too, also Lilo and Stitch was a lot of fun for me. I liked Mulan a lot, and The Rescuers was one of my favorites as a kid.
I second that more of the Wallace and Gromit stuff is definitely worthy of being included.
Love Asterix and Lucky Luke, although the movies never seem anywhere near as cool as the books :D
When it comes to Miyazaki, if I had to name one single favorite, it would likely be Kiki's Delivery Service, followed by Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away and The Cat Returns if more were allowed. I did also like Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle.
