Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] eleri for linking up to the official page for what could be a fan-film phenomenon. The trailers look fantastic, and the official HD premiere online is next Sunday.

Any other good fan films we need to know about? New ones, or classics we haven't discussed in awhile (such as my two favorites, Grayson and World's Finest).

Ah, Grayson. Is there anything scarier than the Joker skipping around with a child in broad daylight with no one to stop him?

I swear, the first time I saw that, I said "OH SHIT". Lots of little brilliant moments in that one, like the Riddler's grin when he locks 'n' loads.

Agreed.

I'm also fond of the exchanges (all too brief for my taste) between Dick and Babs, as if this icon didn't give my pairing bias away.

That is such a creepy scene.

I had been wondering a few days ago if a movie was planned for *The Hobbit.* Is this movie something that is happening *instead of* *The Hobbit,* or has nobody grabbed the ball and run with it where *The Hobbit* was concerned? (Gee, maybe I should just google for "Hobbit movie" and see if I get any hits at all.) I am curious, by the way, about the new version of *The Day the Earth Stood Still*, which has now hit Blockbuster Video -- though I guess, specifically because it has hit Blockbuster Video, it wouldn't be all that expensive for Louie and me to check it out and judge for ourselves.

Oh, you'll get a few hits. I think this (http://www.thehobbitblog.com/) might be the place to go.

New Day The Earth Moved In Accordance With Keanu Reeves' Acting Skills -- if you must. Personally, I'd rather rent The Room or somethin' instead.

such as my two favorites, Grayson and World's Finest.

Those are two of my all-time favourites. They're just so full of wonderful little moments (especially Grayson).

You know he's got what would have been the full script for Grayson up on the company site?

You're freakin' kidding me!

I had no idea a full script had ever actually been written. Wow...

Wow. As much as I'd rather have seen this done as a real movie, I know what I'll be reading today. Thanks.

Okay, now we have technology that's cheap enough for fandom to use yet it's as powerful as what the pros use, so instead of someone saying "My uncle has a barn, let's put on a show" we hear "I have a camera and a computer, let's make a movie."

How long do you think it will be before a fan film makes serious waves? I figure five years before there's controversy over some fan film not being nominated for an Oscar.

Tom, how's your movie score skills? Could you handle an entire 90 minutes of the Fenton movie or would you need to call in some FuMPers for help?

Oh, I could handle it. I'm sure several of them could as well, most prominently Possible Oscar and Hot Waffles. (Although my brain melts at what Shoebox could/would do....)

And some fan films have already made serious waves. Goodness knows the Star Wars fan films (http://www.theforce.net/fanfilms/) have splashed big-time, to the extent that George Lucas judges one of the contests (http://www.atom.com/spotlights/starwars/challenge/enter.html). And if you don't think he's not also taking notes on potential new hires....

Also, Sandy Collora, the guy behind World's Finest, has a new film, Hunter Prey (http://www.hunterpreythemovie.com/), coming soon.

Hmmmmm... how about taking an old movie serial, with expired copyright and all so it's public domain, strip the audio from it and give each segment to a different FuMPer to soundtrack. Then put it on the web site and sell the episodes like they did with Dr. Horrible.

I'd buy it!

Just checked, there's a lot of old movie serials you could do this with: http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/nshowcat.html?category=serial

Little bit of green screen, little bit of after effects, and you could put yourself into the episode as well as do the soundtrack. Fun stuff!

one fan project, "Star Trek New Voyages: World Enough and Time" was nominated for a Hugo at WorldCon 2008. It was "premiered" at WorldCon 2007 with Marc Scott Zicree and George Takei present to explain it.

Good example, that was a good show. I didn't know it was nominated, but it didn't win? Just for fan effort alone it should have won. Last I heard (which was when it came out) they were thinking of doing another one, have they?
