Google, making the world safe for voyeurism.

ETA: I am mildly surprised that no one yet has said, "Great Google-y moogly". :)

Funny song. Reminds me of cities and neighborhoods deliberately blocking the Google Maps trucks and cars so they can't take pictures of their homes. Now they have another reason to keep them away. (Makes me glad my street isn't well traveled and my townhome faces away from the street.)

New business: hire a lot of movie set designers and stay a couple of days ahead of the Google trucks. Before they hit a neighborhood, go around and offer to make their houses look better for a small fee, then whip out and assemble the fake fronts, the imitation flowers and shrubs, and even have extras lounge around the yard doing interesting things so it looks like you have amusing friends. After the trucks are through you tear everything down, clean up the yard, throw a wrap party, and move on to the next neighborhood.

And what happens when Google does a #6 on a neighborhood?

Oops, I just failed the net literacy test. Don't know what a #6 is. I'll go hide in a closet and wallow in my shame.

No, you failed your Obscure Blazing Saddles Reference test. When you're hiding in your closet, take the DVD with you.

I'll have to see if I can pass this along to the Street View folks. Should I submit 'dancing on rendered laps' as a feature request? :)

"...around these...approximate coordinates?" <-- heh.

add disclaimer to the above: I am not speaking for Google here, this is solely my own personal amusement.

A friend of mine found that the street view near his parents' house shows his mom.

I should share this song and see how well he takes to the possibility that someone might be ogling his mom. ;)

LOL. You know, I hadn't heard about the people-watching use for gmaps until just last week. People were complaining about how unfair it was to be seen online...and I was like, "But you had no problem going out in public like that."

New way do discourage teenagers from going out in terrible clothes, "Do you want that outfit to be on Google for the rest of your life?"

Great song! But for some reason when I saw "Cruisin' for chicks on google maps" I thought of a Beach Boys parody "Surfin' USA" but with web surfing, or "I wish they could all be google girls."

Hey, I just learned that an artist friend of mine is having some of her work exhibited in Ann Arbor. If you have time, you might want to go check it out. She's really good: http://karenluk.deviantart.com/journal/24478328/

Google Earth, the sequel

Not only that, but have you tried Google Earth? It has a fun feature to let you view historical (hysterical?) footage. I went back in time on friends and relatives houses.

I saw old cars we used to drive. Aww, it's before it got all smashed up! I saw the inflatable pool in the yard. I saw snow on the ground of summer locations. I saw all the trees that got chopped down in the name of "progress".

And have you climbed Everest or been shipwreck diving yet? Gone out to explore the galaxy?
