PC audio content creators! If Audacity ain't cuttin' it, and Sound Forge is too pricey, here you go: Giveaway Of The Day is handing out Gold Wave Editor Pro (as [livejournal.com profile] jmthane points out, this is not the same program as Goldwave). Today only.

Any other cool audio software we might not have heard about?

ETA: For those who don't have the links:

thanks! Snagged it, because I'm thinking to try and edit stuff and such for bumpers, soundbites, etc....and am tired of having to constantly ask for help

Brilliant! I run a charity musical--the pro version would help us out a *lot*. Thanks so much for the info!

Sound Forge: Audio Studio 9 isn't too bad. It is like 50 bucks, and works great for us we use it on our podcasts.

Snagged, now I just need the time to take a look at it

Next I need a good looping program to put together some stuff with samples.

I just linked up to Acid Xpress, which should get you started. ;) The other one you might try is Reaper (http://reaper.fm/), which just went through a monster upgrade.

I believe a Reaper license is $60 for non-commercial or limited commercial use, which is still a wonderful deal compared to the competition. (Free evaluation version, though.) http://reaper.fm/purchase.php

(I haven't done the 3.0 upgrade yet, but I have only good things to say about the 2.5x series.)

You are absolutely correct. They are very good, though, about keeping the software uncrippled.

I am going to get AcidXpress; it looks good. Thanks! (You can import your own samples into it, can't you?)

Yep. :) And, if you get any version of Sound Forge, you can make your own samples into Acid loops. (I think the Acid Xpress will try to loop it for you, but with SF you'll have much more control over the process.)

Be careful, the big ad for AVS Audio Editor is much easier to see than the Gold Wave download link (not even visible until you scroll down).

Not that AVS Audio Editor is necessarily bad, it's just not what you may have been looking for.

Awesome; I already use Goldwave, but was running out of uses (hitting near the 3,000 uses mark)... maybe this will fix that?

Something of which to be aware - the Gold Wave Editor Pro given out by GOTD today is not the same thing, or the same company, as the GoldWave program (http://www.goldwave.com) that I've been using for years. Lifetime license for this GoldWave is $49.

Drop me a line, I neded to find out if there are easier ways to do some stuff with audacoity. Like break the projects that are a one pass recording of an entire side of an lP of cassette into tracks without having to re-enter the album and artist info for each track. And it'd be nice if it could dpot the silence between cuts on it's own.

Also will soon need to know how to filter a squeal out of a bunch of tapes.

Looks neat! I saw notes that it works fine under vista 64, so I'll check it out.
Thanks.

Rosegarden (http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/). Linux-only, but some of us work that way anyway. It's a score editor, MIDI sequencer, and a few other things. Savitsky has been messing with it...

I'm using Sound Editor Deluxe for recording my lines for the internet audio dramas I'm working on. This Gold Wave Editor Pro sounds like it might be a better program. I don't know.

I don't know if it's my set-up or what but I've been finding the version of Audacity that comes with Lenny to be a bit cranky. Maybe it's how it interacts with ALSA or something.

When I was still using Windoze I tried Power Tracks Pro - mostly playing around with MIDI. It's not free but it is cheap.

Thanks, Tom! I've been using Cubase LE for recording vocals on multiple tracks, and for most of my voice over work when recording with my condenser mic. I edit with Audacity though. I've downloaded this Gold Wave Editor Pro to see how it works. Maybe it'll add a few more tools to my arsenal. :) I now have it both on my desktop and my laptop PCs. The link is much appreciated!
