Those of you in Second Life, come enjoy our campsite during Relay for Life this weekend. The Passionate Redheads deployed three expert builders into the SW corner of "RFL HOPE" (just look for it in map) and created a wild, fun game where you must meet seven challenges in order to earn seven gemstones. Get all seven, and a special prize is yours. Have fun while throwing a coin into the hat to make cancer history! (PS: if you ever wondered what Alice felt like after she drank the potion, come find out what it feels like for yourself!)

Show! Tomorrow! Juanita Beach Park, 9703 NE Juanita Drive, Kirkland, Washington! 5pm-7pm. It's an odd show because the venue has no power this year - they've had to move due to construction - and I'll be using a battery-powered monitor as a PA. So it'll be an EXPERIMENT! and hopefully one that, you know, works.

Pimp our stuu? Well, I've never seen stuu spelled that way before, but I'm game...

IRISH STUU*

Ingredients:
* 1/4 cup vegetable oil
* 1 1/4 pounds stew beef, cut into 1-inch pieces
* 6 large garlic cloves, minced
* 8 cups beef stock or canned beef broth
* 2 tablespoons tomato paste
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1 tablespoon dried thyme
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 2 bay leaves
* 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
* 3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 7 cups)
* 1 large onion, chopped
* 2 cups 1/2-inch pieces peeled carrots
* 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Preparation:
Heat oil in heavy large pot over medium-high heat. Add beef and sauté until brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 1 minute. Add beef stock, tomato paste, sugar, thyme, Worcestershire sauce and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, melt butter in another large pot over medium heat. Add potatoes, onion, and carrots. Sauté vegetables until golden, about 20 minutes. Add vegetables to beef stuu. Simmer uncovered until vegetables and beef are very tender, about 40 minutes. Discard bay leaves. Tilt pan and spoon off fat. (Can be prepared up to 2 days ahead. Cool slightly. Refrigerate uncovered until cold, then cover and refrigerate. Bring to simmer before serving.) Transfer stuu to serving bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

Yeah, considering how long it gets simmered, more garlic would be a good thing.

When I grill with garlic, the heat always sweetens and mutes the taste of the garlic. So I tend to use half the garlic early on (and don't I LOVE that smell), and then put the remainder on a few minutes before the dish is done. Then you have both the soft taste of well cooked cloves and the sharp bite of almost raw material at the same time.

Mmmm... garlic. ;) What happened was, I was posting with my iPod, and I didn't realize I'd misspelled "stuff". My bad, now fixed. But I'm very happy for the stuu recipe!

Not pimping my stuff, but I love well-crafted dolls/action figures when the likenesses are accurate. FYI, the Doctor Who 4th Doctor/Tom Baker dolls by Underground Toys are now in stock at Entertainment Earth. The one I preordered for a friend got shipped today. These puppies have terrific verisimilitude. And this one has 2 heads--one with a serious visage, the other with that trademark Tom Baker grin. I'm not a Dr. Who follower myself, but these are really nice figures. (There's also a boxed set of all 11 Doctors.)

Decent price, too.

My new serial fiction chapter is up at The Edge of Propinquity (http://www.edgeofpropinquity.net/). This month's chapter of Four Visitors is all high-school prom drama right up until the UFO encounter.

There's also new serial fiction by Ivan Ewert, Seanan McGuire, and Nick Bergeron, and a new short story by Jason S. Ridler.

Posting per Tom. :)

Hi folks,

Please help welcome GBmojo to the Ann Arbor area for their first tour in Michigan, Friday, 7/16! They are simply incredible, raw talent and gorgeous harmonies blending together in a way you've likely never heard.

Based out of Austin TX, GBmojo is the harmony-driven duo of star-crossed singer/songwriters Ginger Doss (formerly of Dreamtrybe) and Bekah Kelso. This gypsy-duo combines rootsy soul-folk and piano rock moxie, blends quirky pop rhythms with ethereal tribal visions, mixes urban wit and ancient wisdom for one seamless and high energy performance. They’ve spent the last 2 years touring extensively throughout the U.S., gaining momentum and an ever-widening fan base.

Currently they tour in support of their latest release - "Hand & Hammer", a highly-celebrated collection of Ginger’s most powerful spiritual songs. They continue on their journey, trading songs and making waves. Check them out at www.gbmojo.com.

Doors open at 7:30PM, the show starts at 8:00PM.
Suggested donation is $10-$15.
