Occasionally I get these $10 gift cards from Kohls. Their stuff is so overpriced anyway that the only thing you can really do is try to find a $10 or less item and pay with that. I've gotten some nice things for a buck or two.
I recently got a no-conditions $50 coupon from Tommy Bahama's and used it for a $50 item. Yes, I've spent money there in the past - a total of 3 purchases, around $300 total - they're a little (by that I mean a lot) pricy, but they have some nice shirts.
The local grocery store had a coupon that if you bought $10 worth of stuff you get a bag of chocolate chips for 98 cents. It did NOT say what size of bag it was for so I went for the biggest one (24oz). They said there was a disclaimer for just the 12oz bag but I don't remember seeing it. They gave it to me for 98 cents anyway when it would have cost over $5. Still, I wouldn't have bought the chips otherwise so I guess they got an extra 98 cents off me but I think in this case I came out ahead.
