I am very pleased to announce that my first two albums, Who Let Him In Here? and Domino Death, are available for high-quality download at my Bandcamp page, $8.00 each. Also available as of today are the two Sins of Commission albums and my first two FuMP collections.

Thanks for your patience.

Excellent news! I was recently wishing there were a reasonably high quality digital version of those two albums to replace my aging cassettes.

:) The audio is taken directly from the ADAT masters. Bill handed me 48K 16-bit .WAVs, which I resampled to 44.1K and otherwise left untouched.

Oh, great. Now all I'll be able to hear will be the 48-to-44 kHz resampling artifacts :-)

But seriously, I was hoping you'd say something like this. Even the preview at Bandcamp sounds better than my copy.

PS: My icon is not a death sheep from hell, though it may be construed as a death camel from hell.

[smak] The one program I have that I absolutely trust is Sound Forge. Everything sounds juuuuuuuust fine. Although, if you'd like, I could put back the sample tones Bill gave me. That should wake up every dog in the neighborhood.

In case it wasn't clear (the Internet has a tendency to drop the sarcasm bit), I was attempting to impersonate an audiophile for humorous effect; the sort of person who can hear the glue in the speaker cabinets, and insists on using gold connectors on the amp's power cord.

As I said, the demo at bandcamp.com sounds fine. And better than what I have now.

And besides, this is filk we're talking about. Even if the audio quality were sub-par, it'd still be enjoyable.

Yea!

Glad to hear the tapes are back in print. There are a couple of songs in there which don't exist outside of a concert recording or those tapes.

I've still got copies of both cassettes for sale. Should I get rid of them?

Mm. You got 'em from Bill, I presume. I don't see any reason to -- goodness knows I still have friends who have cassette collections, or who are on dial-up. How many do you have?

Wouldn't it be cool if all those old Wail Songs tapes could be transferred to digital...?

I am working on it.... (At least from the commercial tapes for a song inventory at least.) I should rip in another tape towards the completion.

I just found a new tape that Wail Songs distributed about a week ago.

As for the actual masters, the idea has been discussed and some rights need to be checked..

I *really* want a digital replacement copy of Frank Hayes's Don't Ask tape that I got back in 1987. It has different versions of some of the songs on Frank's CD and I want the Don't Ask versions instead. A digital copy of the filk tape Time Winds Tavern would be nice too, I was only able to save half of the songs on it before my copy disappeared during a move. By the way, can you tell what my introduction to filk was (other than Dr Demento)??

Thomas, old friend, your timing could not possibly have been a scintilla better! Turner Classic Movies is running Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea this very minute. Three guesses which track of your first tape I'm listening to along with it...and the first two don't count! :-)

Cool. "Who Let Him in Here" was one of the first filk albums I ever bought. I basically picked three random tapesfrom a catalog and ended up with that, Barry and Sally Childs-Helton's "Escape from Mundania" and Dave Clement's "Rambling the Galaxy." Now I just wish I could get those two tapes on MP3 as well.

About 12 years ago (Shit, REALLY?! 12 years?!) I was a pizza delivery boy rolling about North Stockton and slinging pies to obnoxious yuppies, and one of the things that kept me sane was a bootleg, recorded copy of a double-sided tape, each side including a copy of Domino Death. It would merely run, repeating back and forth, for over a year before I ever put something different in my CD player.

I purchased both of these last night, the moment that I saw them, and I am very glad to have finally thrown down cash on a legitimate copy. Feels a bit odd to go from illegitimate cassette to legitimate MP3 downloads, but there you have it. :D I've listened to both of these twice already since I got them last night, and plan on having at least three or four listen-throughs today. :P These songs feel like home and good times and teenage mistakes. :)

Aww, shucks, you.

I just noticed it took me a year to replace the tape in my CD player. I guess I must have replaced the whole damned radio!

...or made a stupid error, one of the two.

That's wonderful - now I have something else specific to save for. Sometimes, the first version you hear of a song becomes the definitive version, and for me there are a few songs on those two tapes that is true for. It's not rational, but it is what it is...

I saw the title "Really Sick Note" and expected a parody of "Death Note", but with a much lamer (and sillier) notebook power...
