The new ep on BBC America is either 5 x 07, "Amy's Choice", or 5 x 08, "The Hungry Earth"; the newest downloadable is 5 x 10, "Vincent and the Doctor".

ETA: I was up VERY late last night, thanks to the tornado warnings and generally shitty weather out Ann Arbor way. All I know is, I downloaded "Vincent and the Doctor". Thanks to [personal profile] jmthane and [profile] markbernstein for setting me straight.

I don't know about numbers, but the new one on BBCA last night was "Amy's Choice", which was very good. Was that Toby Jones as the Dream Lord?

Vincent and the Doctor was quite good. Was interested to see at the end the mention that if the subject matter (depression and suicide) brought up issues for any of the viewers that they could go to a website or call a phone number.

For me, it reminded me of my own trip to the Musee D'Orsay, still one of the best days of my life.

I quite liked "Vincent and the Doctor". It had a much more classic Dr Who feel to it and it was nice performances all around.

This locked in something I've been thinking. Davis was very edgy, bringing the Doctor into the new century. Moffet is much more a classicist. His episodes harken back to the Pertwee days. Lots of real history and running mysteries plus a entourage of companions and friends.

Moffet seems to be into small towns. Leadbottom, dreamTown, miningTown, southern France, while RTDavies seemed to be into LargeTown life--London, Cardiff, Gridlock city.

I liked Vincent and his portrail. The Doctor kinda bugged me about his rush, what's five minutes of patience to a Time Lord? (Opening scene). I will take it they had an English guide at Musee D'Orsay for the English visitors, so speaking of Pounds instead of Euros would relate to the room more.

I've been getting into Classic Doctor Who these days and finding a lot of stories I did not see back when I thought I was catching a lot on Channel 62 and later, PBS.

What day in 2010 did Amy and the Doctore return to in 2010? Last we knew he left just before midnight of 6/26/2010 with Amy and Rory. Did he arrive x number of days after 6/25/2010 with 6/26/2010, new timeline being not significant? The Doctor did call out for Rory (about 30 min in).

This Doctor was here during the time periods of two other Doctors already, 2008, first adult Amy (age 19); 1999?, child Amy (age 8), and a future Doctor could be around in 2020 (Hungry Earth/Cold Blood).

I don't know what Tom uses. Lately I've been using the newsgroup alt.binaries.drwho to get the episodes a few hours after they air in the UK (I do my downloads either late afternoon or early evening eastern time)

I use BitTorrent and search for torrents at http://www.torrentz.com/

We were out and about until 9pm PDT, and I didn't start the torrent until around 10. We were watching it before midnight.

I get my British media from http://thebox.bz via BitTorrent. It's terrific for almost anything BBC.

Another good site for TV, in general, is http://immortalseed.com (also BitTorrent). They are terrific for current shows; I don't use them for archival material, so don't know how they are with it. They deliver all their shows as multi-part RAR files, so you'll need WinRAR or 7Zip or something that handles RAR archives.

I like Vincent and the Doctor. It had a few things we don't usually see: it wasn't the Doctor who won the day, and the Doctor broke one of his rules to give someone hope that they despirately needed. "I'm mad, not crazy" is a perfect catch-line for Vincent. BBC included a help line at the end for people suffering with depression, that I thought was a VERY nice touch.

Despite a certain overplaying of how great Van Gogh is - much like how much they told us Agatha Christie was that great - this was yet another amazing hour of Dr Who goodness. Kudos to the show for not toning down Van Gogh's illness and to Tony Curran for doing a great job. This may be the best Famous Person meets The Doctor since Shakespeare.

And I love how much Matt Smith keeps playing on the Doctor getting old despite getting younger. Just amazing.

The bad thunderstorms went south of us, through Allegan County and Kalamazoo. We always miss the good stuff.
