I liked Eccleston, but I'm not so sure about this Tennant guy they're bringing in. (What? It could be a spoiler if someone's far enough behind!)

Did we just witness the birth of the Valeyard?

Possibly? If they do bring back the Valeyard, and point to this episode as his origin, I can totally buy that. I can't see, though, why people are so sure ahead of time that this is going to become the Valeyard, instead of just staying as a random psychic pollen-induced hallucination.

If they bring him back, it would be lovely if they get an actor to play him who can do as good a job as Michael Jayston. That man could do a proper villain. I was not happy with the last incarnation of the Master, he was too damn goofy. If the script said to snarl a line, Michael Jayston could snarl the line. I have much <3 for him.

Fantastic ep. This was as close to old-style Doctor Who as the new series has come in all five seasons, and all three new Doctors. Who knew that Time Lords could do that with a head butt -- or that the Doctor could play football?

Finally, two good eps in a row. Love the sonic screwdriver in the toothbrush cup. But next time, how about we get to see AMY just post-shower? :-)

Next up: more River Song and we finally get around to exploring the mystery of the Crack In The Universe. Looking forward to it with only a modicum of trepidation.

Yeah, everyone in my club are calling that the Aberdeen Mind Meld.

I love the little things between episodes. :-) Did you catch the Van Gogh on the refrigerator?

And the fact that The Doctor talks to cats just rocks. :-)

Yes, I saw the Vincent, and thought it was a neat nod to the prior ep. One of the things Moffat seems to be very good at is nods to the past, whether it's prior regenerations, old stories, or earlier stories from this season.

And hey, cats are people too (waka-do waka-do :-)

I just finished watching 'The War Games'. I'm so sad Troughton's gone!

(Actually only being slightly facetious there: I'm simultaneously switching between early, mid, and current seasons of the show. I've seen First and Second Doctors in entirety, minus missing episodes, and Tom Baker from his first episode up until the start of 'Talons of Weng-Chiang'. Also seen all of the revival up until the latest episode BBC America has aired.)
(And Troughton is fantastic, my favourite out of the six Doctors that sporadic viewing covers.)

Both of the two-parters so far this season have been really good at making me forget about "Okay, there's seven minutes left in the episode, let's see how they wrap this up."

"The Lodger" (episode 511)

I found it interesting that during the "head-butt flashback", the previous Doctors appeared in this order: 9, 10, 8, 4, 3, 2 and then 1 -- with 5, 6 and 7 missing (I even stepped through it, one frame at a time, to make sure).

It's almost (but not quite) a "countdown" of the Doctor's regenerations, but it brings up two questions:
  1. Why does the 9th Doctor appear first (before the 10th Doctor)?, and

  2. Why do the 5th, 6th and 7th Doctors not appear?
Of course, an even bigger question might be: Is there any actual significance to it?

Bunches of Classic Doctor Who

I've been watching bunches of Classic Doctor Who, myself, in addition to current series. I've seen about 60 of the 156 stories and got a pile of many more watch before hunting down more. Just about seen all first and last stories for each Doctor, working on first and last stories for many companions. Recent viewing has taken me from 4th to 3rd to 2nd to 1st with The Hand of Fear (4th, last Sarah Jane), The Time Warrior (3rd, first Sarah Jane, first Sontarian), The Tomb of the Cybermen (2nd) and The Reign of Terror (1st, with eps 4&5 reconstructed). Next stop: either 7th Ghost Light to get more of Ace's backstory or 4th The Robots of Death, where I think Tom Baker era really hit it's stride in the 14th and 15th season.
Time Warrior had me enjoying the Jon Pertwee Doctor more. This story with the introduction of The Sontarians brought a monster/allien with a mask that used the actors own eyes and was flexible enough to provide some facial movement and therefore, a bit more emotion.

Still watching it. Just came to the line "You can't be on the second floor, it's a one story building." Show of hands, how many remember when Douglas Adams used this same idea in the uncompleted Dr Who story Shada, and later in his book Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (which reused parts of Shada)? Well done, writers, I hadn't expected it but do recognize the inspiration. Back to the episode!
