Farewell, Charles Durning
Dec. 25th, 2012 08:34 amAw, man. Two of the greats, back to back.
Great sadness. Actor Charles Durning has passed away at the age of 89.
He was an amazing actor, another perfect Everyman who could move seamlessly from light comedy to dark evil. His breakout role was as the corrupt cop Lt. Snyder in The Sting. He was in dozens of movies and TV shows. And yet, I think I'll always remember him as Doc Hopper in The Muppet Movie, and as the Governor in The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas:
That won an Oscar for Best Song in a Musical that year, and got Durning nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
Rest well, sir, and thanks.
