Up In The Aether Con
May. 23rd, 2013 05:50 pmMemorial Day is always a huge convention weekend, and my con of choice for the past few years was World Steam Expo in Dearborn, MI. Well, that convention has sadly gone defunct, but it's risen from the ashes less than a mile away as Up In The Aether Con!
UITA is at the same hotel ConFusion's moved to; it's a very nice space, with enough room to do stuff and yet all around a central area, so the whole thing should be bustling (and corseting and top-hatting) all weekend. Restaurant attached, with a family/sports bar (JS Fields), Mexican restaurant, Wendy's, Chili's, Red Robin, and a pizza place called Pizza Place all within walking distance, a whole bunch of big-box shopping on the other side of the Southfield Freeway, and Fairlane Mall just across the way.
There are entire programming tracks on food, costuming, history, literature, DIY/Maker projects, personal combat... tables for open gaming... seriously, there's no possible way to be bored at this 'un. Lots of excellent people there, too: Elizabeth Bear (our own
matociquala), Stone Clover, Voltaire, and many other authors and musicians. Oh, and me. :)
My concerts are tomorrow, Friday, at 3:00 p.m. (don't ask) in the Event Tent, and Saturday, 6:00 p.m. (again, don't ask), in the Greenfield room.
So. Who's planning to be there this weekend? Or, if you're not, where are you going to be? (If it's at another convention, please link to it so those in the vicinity who might not know about it can find you.)
