On this date in 1920. Dude revolutionized movies, especially in the realm of stop-motion animation. (I can't believe I feel I have to explain this to some of my younger readers; I hope you all feel patronized and shoot me a dirty look for thinking you might possibly not know who Ray Harryhausen is.)

What's your favorite Harryhausen film? With me, it's The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, although Jason and the Argonauts, The Three Worlds of Gulliver, and Mighty Joe Young are old faves, and The Valley of Gwangi is just a guilty pleasure.

Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger is mine. And ooh, it's on Netflix's 'watch instantly'. I see a plan for tonight.

I'm almost tempted to rent that solely for the purpose of writing the obvious filk.

I love Golden Voyage Of Sinbad. It's pure cheese, but it's really good cheese.

After that, 7th Voyage, Mysterious Island And Jason.

Oh, and I have turned my kids on to all of these. The Harryhausen fantasy box is a big hit in my house. They like some of the SF box too.

Umm, I know about stop-motion animation thanks to The Wizard of Speed and Time?

I liked the original Jason and the Argonauts much better than the new remake which completely threw Greek Mythology out the window.

My bad if it's not one of his. I always thought it was.

Time Machine was by the other great stop motion director, George Pal. ;)

Definitely "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad". But, I'm a sucker for all of his films.

Beyond a doubt, Clash of the Titans. All that cool RH animation, plus Olivier chewing scenery, Harry Hamlin in his youthful, hunky prime, and an all-star international cast. What's not to love?

By the by, did you happen to know that Ray is teaming up with a comic-book company to publish sequels to some of his classic films in sequential-art format? The dope is here. If a Ray fan like you is already hip, forgive my lateness.

Definitely Clash of the Titans, for the reasons Matt has elucidated.

It'd have to be a toss up between Clash and the more obscure Earth vs. The Flying Saucers. ID4's curb stomp destruction of DC doesn't come near to matching the running Death Ray vs. Flying Saucer fight at the end of EvtFC.

Yeah, EvTFS would be my favorite, too. Not exactly the most extensive use of Harryhausen's talents, but I like the story better. After that, Jason and the Argonauts.

One of the Sinbad movies definately, sorry don't know which one it is (probably 7th Voyage but could be Golden). Gullivar for the win as well. I am interested in how his War of the Worlds would have looked. I have fond memories of One Million Years B.C. but probably for reasons other than the animation :-)

My favorite Harryhausen film would probably be a documentary about the man himself.

What can I say? I'm a film buff.

Ooo...

Tough call between The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad and Clash of the Titans. But I can tell you that when I saw the trailers for the remake of Titans, my first thought was ... "Um, I'm not sure that's going to beat Harryhausen."
