I was too young when I saw this happen live to appreciate it. Although I did wonder what all the big fuss was about since we already went to other planets every week on Star Trek. What can I say, it was the summer between kindergarden and first grade.

NPR did a good interview about that this morning, on Morning Edition. How the original footage was lost, yet largely re-created.

Be thankful that they din't just animate it to an original audio track like some of the Patrick Troughton "Dr Who"s.
