- Solved the tech issue on the DucKon audio. As more usual, now the problem is time, as in time to upload stuff. Ideally, I'll have some of that this weekend.
- This weekend! I'll be at LibertyCon in Chattanooga, TN. Great bunch of folks who treated me very well last year, so I'm looking forward to it.
- Next week, I should have a vast compilation of links to AnthroCon and InConJunction authors and artists. Very cool stuff.
- Giveaway Of The Day has some decent-looking notation software, MagicScore Note, all for the free.
- Almost forgot -- our friend
jimhines released a new book this week, Red Hood's Revenge.

Date: 2010-07-08 02:27 pm (UTC)When I checked a few minutes ago there were 464 songs that included demos (http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/demos) that vary in quality everywhere from full production to "I sang this into my computer mic so I wouldn't forget the tune" and a total of 648 (some lyrics only; some no more than placeholders for work in progress).
For anyone interested, I'm on there as 'PhilKMills'. I also have made a post recently (http://phillip2637.livejournal.com/323332.html) about some of the songs I've heard, like, and would consider importing into filk.

Date: 2010-07-08 02:59 pm (UTC)My first reaction to the MagicScore offer was "Looks nice, but . . .". The problem with a music notation program I've never heard of is that I don't know what file format it uses, so I don't know if choosing this program will lock me in and prevent me from changing if I find a better program. (I have several songs in Noteworthy Composer .nwc format, so this is a real concern.)
Since my professional life revolves around XML, this immediately led to the thought, "I wonder if there's an XML schema for music notation?" Googling turned up several initiatives. At first, cursory glance, the one that appears to currently have the widest support is MusicXML.

Date: 2010-07-08 07:51 pm (UTC)I *was* going to be opening Nerdapalooza, but sadly had to cancel due to loss of job...which REALLY has me bummed.
However, a kind friend/fan did send some $ for my CDs, which helped me fill out the cost of making my new album, "The Last Arcade", which should be available sometime next week.
So...w00t! ^_^
