It was a long, nasty haul -- the van doesn't have working AC, and temperatures were in the 90s with high humidity all the way down -- but, with lots of water and strategic rest/cooling down stops and a little bit of rain (not nearly enough), I got here. Had the wrong Super 8 in the GPS. Dummy. :)

Once I finally got settled in, I got over to the Comfort Inn, where a whole bunch of people, including Rev. Bob, Uncle Timmy, Derek, and Dr. Osborn. I think maybe half the con staff and a good dozen attendees not only expressed pleasure but surprise at seeing me. When I said last year that I had a good time and I wanted to come back, they apparently thought I was just saying that to be a good GOH or somethin'. Nope, I had a fantastic time last year, and this year is turning out much the same.

(A couple of really nice moments in the Opening Ceremonies. I got there late and kinda off to the side, and Uncle Timmy was introducing guests, and someone said, "Tom Smith is here", and Uncle Timmy announced me, and I got the most applause I'd heard so far.

(And John Effing Ringo came up to me and said, "Saw you at Dragon*Con. They said there was gonna be a filker [I presume he's talking about the Awards Banquet], and I thought, 'oh noooooo'. You were fucking awesome." Oh yeah, I was in a good mood.)

Saw Toni Weisskopf, always a good thing. Sat next to Mike Z. Williamson at the Mass Autograph session. Mike and I haven't had the chance to talk much lately, so that was nice. I hope to meet Darrell K. Sweet this weekend.

At 9:00, got interviewed. A very strange interview as interviews go, but fun. Lots of singing. It's gonna be podcast, and when I know the details I'll let you know.

At 10:00, my first concert. Hour and a half. (Second one is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Unofficial one is sometime this afternoon in the lobby/hangout area.) Lots of silly fun, Derek and Brandy and Beth, other folks I know, some newbies. I broke one guy in the front row doing shtick from the Rocky Horror Muppet Show. But dang, I was so tired I blew the words to "Take Your Hands Off The Bear". I'll get that one right Sunday. Realized I'd not hit the Record button on the Zoom. Fortunately, Ira (with his lady Janie) had his Tascam right next to it, so I should be able to get that file today.

And now I'm packing up to go back. I'll be in the lobbyish area, holding court and burning CDs and singing later this afternoon (I promised a set of serious songs).

How's your weekend going so far?

Serious? You? Mais non!

(Although "A Boy and His Frog" is ga-ron-teed to bring out the kleenex...)

I rode all the way around Mt. Rainier. Wow. But DAMN, this heat wave got to me; I didn't quite make it all the way back to the Emerald City before I was *done*... fortunately, just at the right spot is the IKEA, and I had a nice salmon dinner and a tall sparkling apple drink, and let it cool down some more, and *then* I went home. But uff da, the heat! Should be some cooler today, and even cooler tomorrow.

Dervish. Hellraiser. Rocket Ride. Starlight and Saxophone. Storm Dancing. PQR.

Tom is really good at making us laugh, and that is no small thing, but his best stuff is far more than just giggles.

I'm packing up for the Oregon trip. Our two-day heat snap broke and we've cooled down to something like normal summer. (A bit hotter than usual, but in range.) So I'm RESTED and READY, so BUCKLE UP KIDS IT'S ADVENTURETIME! YAY!

After close to one year in DDO, I finally found some folks with whom to make a guild. Yay!

My son, Brad, is supposed to come over this afternoon to watch some recorded episodes of The Pacific. Not here yet.

Kitten, Kathi, and I were supposed to go up to the Farm to scatter my Uncle's ashes, but he seems to be haunting his widow, who had been evilly neglecting him during the last few months of his life. She was found wandering around Cherry, Illinois, mumbling that he was looking over her shoulder. The local cops put her in the hospital, so the scattering appears to be off for now.

I try not to be too amused, but it's really hard.

Other than that, just trying to stay inside to dodge the summer.

Been playing City of Villains for the most part. I got some tough elite bosses to fight (including my own clone). Our group's "Weekend Team Up" is in about half an hour so I hope to knock them out then.

Tomorrow I have a Skype RPG to enjoy (hooray) and may spend some time redoing my play lists since I decided to reorganize my music collection. Not sure if the changes are for the better, but I hope it will be easier to find things.

Well in the last 24 - 48 hours I've managed to watch the first three seasons of Farscape on Netflix so I'm caught up with my friends who are doing Farscape Night get-togethers and are entering season two.

The rest of the weekend will likely consist of housework...yardwork...and garagework. ;-)

I always thought Farscape didn't get anywhere near the credit that it deserved for writing.

I had a wonderful CoastCon once when I was appearing at the same time as Virginia Hey, who's a complete trip. Her job almost killed her when her makeup damaged her immune system so much that she developed shingles.

Unfortunately they lost me when that little muppet freak had his urine turn into an explosive. Too gross to continue. But I do wish I stayed on long enough to watch the loony toons episode.

You missed a lot after that. If you can skip that episode (which you can do okay without losing anything) then there's a lot of goodness further along in the series.

I always feel bad for skipping Libertycon. It's only about 2 hours drive, but every year I think about going I have something else going on that keeps me from attending.

Good to know Ringo liked your Filking. I don't know if I would of actually thrown his books into a furnace or not.

Only if they're the Mike Harmon series. (I think that's his name - the Army guy who collects sex workers like cats (http://hradzka.livejournal.com/194753.html), the original source of the phrase "oh John Ringo no".)

its the Council War series, the one hes not wanting to go back and continue. (at least I hope its THAT John Ringo.) I don't have the monies to grab his old Bolo works. The Last Centurion was...a little more right leaning then I would of liked, but meh. Ringo writes what Ringo likes.

I still think John Effing Ringo is upset that his parents didn't give him the obvious middle names.
