Not airing in the US until sometime in fall... but the right download sites have the first two eps already.

Amazing.

If you have seen it already, consider this a spoiler thread.

Absolutely in love with it. [livejournal.com profile] davehogg is a huge Holmes fan and was on the edge of his seat the entire first episode. Going to watch the 2nd one in a bit here.

Sad that only three have been made so far, but it looks good enough that I'm hoping it will get picked up for more.

Watched the first one the other night. Great stuff.
I like the new, effective shortcut in storytelling, where what is appearing on a cell phone is appearing on the screen without have to switch to an insert shot of someone holding it, so that it looks convincing that both character and camera see it.

Mostly like it (after seeing ep 1; ep 2 to be seen after The Next Food Network Star -- what can I tell you, we have strange priorities here :-)

Not entirely sure I like all of the showing Sherlock's thought process techniques. On the one hand, it's clear, and modern. On the other hand, it gets old quickly. And on the gripping hand, it's lots clearer than past efforts, where we see an object and have no idea what it is about it that he's noticing.

M had something of a fit about the identity of the man in the suit. I personally think that if we're reimagining the character(s), that's within bounds. And besides, it was a nice red herring for the middle of the episode.

Off to watch folks cook.

I'm loving it :-)

my only quibble with it (even stronger in the second episode) is that it shows Sherlock being so focused in his own thought processes that he's missing things, particularly things that Watson knows/has spotted.

Also, like some of the SH stories, there are deductions made with a single solution that I watch and think "well, it could be that, but there's another explanation for that as well which Sherlock either hasn't noticed or has discarded for some reason but we, the audience, aren't being told about it"

I do like little touches like a Chinese woman saying something in ?Mandarin? and Holmes translating it ("spider") ... and Holmes knowing that a particular phone or watch came out in the last six months, showing he's keeping up to date with contemporary culture, at least as far as technology is concerned ... and yes, he has his own computer :-)

Haven't seen him playing the violin yet though!

Sure there are things that don't ring quite true in our real world (the road outside 221b Baker Street is much busier), it's really unlikely that you could send the same text to two dozen mobile phones and have it appear on all of them near enough simultaneously ... and it's amusing seeing the location London stuff inserted into all the stuff they actually film in Cardiff.

Not convinced by Mark Gatiss/man in suit yet ... but I'll wait and see what happens in episode 3 ... and won't be at all surprised by the identity of "M_" :-)

Well, color me horrified. I will reserve full judgment until I've seen the episode. But with what I've seen via that trailer, he appears to be a smart, moedern detectiv. But no way in hell is that Sherlock Holmes. Call me a purist if you must.

What I like best about this show can be summed up with the scene about Watson's cell phone. Sherlock goes through the usual observation and deduction thing which impresses Watson a lot, but Sherlock detects a doubt and becomes a bit nervous. After a bit of confused emotions (he can't be wrong, but obviously he is, he can't admit it, but he'll never find out unless he does) he pleads with Watson to tell him what he missed. His reaction to "Harry" was great!

I also like how they incorporate modern technology, from the text messages to the phone tracking. Most writers would shy away from it, remove cell phones entirely or never have anyone use the internet, but these people include it all in a way that deepens the mystery. Well done!

My initial reaction when I heard of the concept of a modern SH was: Is that really necessary? There are SO MANY weird/Asperger-like detectives out there on TV and there's so much CSI out there, too, all of it with its roots in SH, why now do this?

After having watched the first episode I'm rather down with it though, because it's well done and ok, it's not the first OR will be the last TV series with an SH-like character, at least they're calling him Sherlock.

Also it was a bit like The Big Bang Theory with fewer laughs.
