NASFiC So Far

Short but fun FuMP show -- me, Rob, Devo, Danny. Saw a number of old friends, spent time talking with Rob, got to ride a rickshaw. ;) I have VERY limited internet -- the server at the Super 8 is just not working -- so we'll see how much I can post.

My solo concert is at 2:00 today in the Raleigh Convention Center Ballroom A. I'm gonna try to make open filk tonight. After some BBQ. ;)

I had a dream about you last night. Well, about your icon anyhow (well, it was black-and-white, and more two-d than real-life). For some reason you were leading services at my synagogue. I'm sure it made sense at the time.

I tried to do three grown-up-ish things today and only succeeded at getting some books out of the library (all five volumes of Elizabeth Moon's Vatta's War series so I can read them in one big chunk). My iron's too low to donate blood, and "my" mechanic doesn't work Saturdays and I'd rather wait for him to inspect my truck since he already knows the usual idiosyncrasies.

I also just got through poring over your Bandcamp site and doing some web searches - whatever became of your idea for "The Best Little Horcrux in Hogwarts"? The UTD vocal department is going to do some selections from the original musical, and if you ever did get around to fleshing out alternate lyrics, I'd love to have them for singing during mic check.

I'm up at my family's house in upstate New York. Haven't been here in years--more fool me. God, I love this place. Boating, swimming, hot tub, great weather...

Went to the Bristol Ren Faire today. Had a much better time than last year. Last year to prepare for the drive I took a caffeine pill, drank an espresso drink, and had an energy drink along the way. By the time I got there I was so hopped up on caffeine and sugar and whatnot all I could do is walk around until I crashed. I could not sit still for more than 5 minutes and left 2 hours later exhausted.

This year I pulled back a bit on the preparation and was able to slow down, watch some shows, and enjoy myself. Had a little stomach ache from yesterday though. Saw a friend from DucKon. Got a pirate tankard and mousetrap catapult and a toy for my cats.

I attended a performance of "The Dread Crew of Oddwood" kind of a heavy metal pirate band from San Deigo. They were pretty good and one of the few groups apart from Weird Al to rock with an accordion (both the big kind and the smaller, strap free, kind). http://www.thedreadcrewofoddwood.com/ They let me pay with check for their 2 CDs. I listened to them on my way home.

Tomorrow is this Veggie Fest thing in Naperville. I went last year and got some free stuff. I'm hoping for more of the same this year. It's something to do.

My weekend would be better if there were more people at this convention. This concom really dropped the ball on marketing and publicity. Your concert at a tiny regional con put on at a college campus by their local student SF fan club had about twice as many attendees. That is weirder than snake shoes, and I have never seen a Nasfic this poorly attended.

Currently I'm ensconced in the filk room with a laptop, since gaming was a bust with all of the advertised Saturday afternoon RPG games cancelled due to lack of players. :/

Man, I wish I saw this post sooner Tom. I was at the Super 8 as well and couldn't get on, but I was able to get a signal from the Days Inn next door. You should have been able to get on there.
