If you're anywhere near Pittsburgh, this is the place to be. It was my fond hope to be able to make it there this weekend, but I simply can't justify it, either in time or money. Ticks me off, because I haven't seen some of those people for a lotta years. [profile] mrgoodwraith runs a hell of a music track, and John Scalzi is the Author GOH, and the music is the inestimable More Difficulties, and what are you waiting for?

So, who's there? Or, if you're not there, what are you doing this weekend? I'm trying to finish a commission job, and Miranda's birthday party is tomorrow.

You realize that you've earwormed us all now...

Death to hamsters, death to hamsters
Death to hamsters exept for miranda's

So I expect to spend the weekend humming that under my breath.

:) At some point, she's gonna be old enough to understand that song, and she just may ask if she's the Miranda in it, and I'm gonna rub my paws together in glee and chortle, "Ohhh-ho-ho-ho-HO, yes."

You realize the first time she looks at her parents, eyes and smile the same mile wide, and announces "I wanna make music just like Unca Tom!!" they're going to want to kill you... :-)

Oh, and laundry. Lots of laundry.

Tomorrow: grocery shopping, try to do some cooking ahead for the week, get MIL's bus itinerary changed, then dancing at a hafla that evening.

Sunday: Family meeting of DOOOOM, more food prep for the week, then dance class and GMing a game.

We have a quiet weekend planned for once. Might declare a cleanup day on Sunday.

And I agree about Confluence. Wish I could be there.

It's a shame you won't be; I could bring [livejournal.com profile] cassildra along and you two could finally meet in person. :-)

I'll probably be dropping in to Confluence for the day tomorrow. (It's my local con, after all, and I have the weekend available now, so I'd feel irresponsible not doing so.)

The rest of the weekend will be spent prepping for Pennsic, and then I leave on Monday.

Gods, I am so not ready... :-)

Having now recovered from the work week, thinking about seeing the Half-Blood Prince this weekend (don't know if I really want to see Harry, though; can I just skip his scenes and double up on Hermione's? :-)

Plus, I have a pile of music that needs converting from FLAC to MP3 that I've been neglecting for far too long. And there's always the neverending house cleanup.

Going to try out a tele-gaming group tomorrow. Got my usual pulp-era tele-gaming on Sunday. Throw in shopping and clean up and all that other stuff involved in maintaining a house.

Next weekend my aunt and her husband is coming for a visit. They'll stop by for an hour on their way to my parents'. My grandaunt died last year and they'll be picking up furniture they inherited. This means I got to take some of the stuff I inherited and put them on display. You know some of the stuff I got? Empty boxes! (They were suppose to have buddhist temple bells from Japan.)

I love that Google Maps gives all the SCA road names (unlike the actual campground map), so there's no question that it's the right place.

ConFluence would be a good reason to delay the start of my Pennsic; having both back-to-back would probably be more fun than I've had since I was in elementary school. Don't ask this donkey to choose between adjacent bales of hay, though.

They are now to be among you
In the hazy summer heat
To drink and feast and laugh and play
And each other up to beat,
There are lovely lawns to joust on,
But they'll soon be lawns no more,
For whenever two or more of you
Gather at the Pennsic War,
There is mud,
There is mud.

There are knights in homemade armor,
There are wenches in their gowns,
There are hordes of furred barbarians
Who aren't that used to towns,
They all work to look so different,
But they'll all soon be in browns,
For whenever we hit Pennsic,
For two days the field drowns,
There! It's mud,
There is mud.

And what's the big excuse you give to get this weekend off?
Is the office air conditioner so dry you've got a cough?
Has the workload overstressed you, your co-workers just too loud?
You will miss them when you're trapped beneath a front of thunderclouds.

For a dozen years you've gone now,
You've fought and drunk and wenched,
You have lugged a household full of stuff
Just to watch it all get drenched,
But your friends are here with love and beer,
That's what friends are for,
And whenever two or more of you
Gather at the Pennsic War,
There is mud...
Deal! There's mud.

Same old, same old. Teaching tomorrow morning, errands and work around the house rest of Sat. I get to stay home Sunday though. I may laze on Sat and work on "recovering". The eye surgery went well, the surgeon is pleased . . . but it still HURTS.

For anyone who doesn't squick easily . . . until it disolves, I now have a knot from the sutures in the lower outside corner. Yes, I can feel it. Yes, it is driving me NUTS both from "something in my eye" annoyance and occasional pain.

Rob's off at SDCC.

I'm home.

On the agenda is cleaning and other chore-like things. Already got a good head-start on that...

I would go to Busch Gardens this weekend (I won a pair of tickets a while back) but then I saw the weather forecast: HUGE FREAKING THUNDERSTORMS!

After the one we had last night, I figure I'll save the tickets for Labor Day or something...

We are enjoying having an actual weekend AT HOME and not covered up with prep for the next road trip, after ApolloCon followed by 3 weeks of travel!

Of course, we do have the ApolloCon wrap-up meeting, and a friend's birthday party to attend, and other bits and pieces, but at least we're AT HOME.

We're at Confluence, and will be at Anticipation.

Between the two, I plan to have a sufficiently rockin' time that I will be able to endure the work committment that has wiped out this year's OVFF for me.

I'm at Confluence for the first time ever, despite living in the Pittsburgh area for 4 years now. I was disappointed to hear that you won't be here, but there is still so much good music I shall muddle through until I see you at another con. ^.~

I just got home after spending a few hours hanging out at the open filk circle and alternately singing along and laughing my ass off. ([livejournal.com profile] ericcoleman is an evil, evil man - but I'm sure you knew that.)

Our weekend is pretty simple, church picnic at lunchtime followed by a visit by both sets of grandkids.
