Pi-Con So Far
Aug. 22nd, 2010 08:48 amVery nice time. Friday, I hung out for awhile in the lobby. Ben Newman,
jannyblue,
devospice,
partiallyclips,
scifantasy,
hms42, a few other people. A cute lady on con staff named Beck, who kept "sir"-ing me until I finally got her to just call me Tom. Janny had a swag pack from Allison, my connection at NASA. Mission stickers for the Shuttle, the Hubble Repair Team, and the International Space Station. Young adult activity books. My own pad of NASA note paper. How Frickin' Cool Is That.
Eventually I headed to the Sing-Along panel, which went pretty well. Then came the What Is Filk? panel/sing, which segued into the open filk. I stayed till just past 11:00, then went to talk with folks for about an hour, and I ended up not getting all that much sleep.
Saturday, I hung out at the FuMP table in the Dealer's Room for about an hour before my concert.
jannyblue,
devospice,
partiallyclips,
scifantasy,
hms42. :) Then the lovely
ladysprite, with husband
umbran in tow, came in to give me one of her typical world's-best-evar hugs and let me know the sound crew was ready for me. All good.
Just before the concert,
elektra_h came up and gave me a hug and a Winnie-the-Pooh. Very soft, adorable. And then,
stormsdotter came up and gave me a wooden mug with "307 Ale" carved into it. Very cool, very generous -- many thanks, ladies!
The concert went well. About thirty or forty people, a few newbies, a lot of songs they apparently hadn't heard. A fairly stoic, Ben Steinish gent in the front row named Alex, who I was determined to make laugh, and whom I did get a few smiles out of -- and he came up after and said how great the show was. :D Some sales, some hugs.
misterseth and
mnemex, among others, came up to say Hi.
Then came the FuMP show, during which
devospice,
partiallyclips, and I basically sang, pontificated, and got silly. All in set-up for their solo concerts after. There was Dwindling Audience Syndrome, but everything seems to have gone off okay. One guy, who'd bought the first FuMP CD back at the table, bought the other twenty from Devo. I guess we made a good impression. Then Devo had to drive back home; I'll check up on him later today.
I was going to go to dinner with
ladysprite and
umbran in the hotel restaurant, but
scifantasy found the menu to a local Chinese place, and volunteered to go get. We all said Boo-ya, or words to that effect, and I quickly realized that, by and large, every Chinese restaurant menu is the same as any other Chinese restaurant menu. Got some shrimp fried rice and egg drop soup. Will took orders for a bunch of people, phoned it in, brought it all back, and then he, Janny, Becca, Arnis and I repaired to my room for a chow-down. Fun, tasty, I got the extra fortune cookies.
And then I needed to have a bit of a lie-down.
And then it was 11:15. Which meant that I slept through the steampunk sing-along, during which I was supposed to lead everyone in "The Mechanicsburg Tourism Song". And I was so frickin' exhausted I couldn't even get up, so going down to the open filk was Right Out.
And now it's Sunday, and I've got to start packing the van, and go hang out in the dealer's room for a few hours, and talk to con-com, and say goodbye to folks. Fun little shindig.
How's your weekend been?
ETA: I have no idea why
scifantasy's LJ name is struck out. As far as I can tell, Will's account is alive and kicking.

Date: 2010-08-22 05:46 pm (UTC)Oh- and the second and third gears in the Odyssey act light eight-year-olds in the back seat now and again, not chronically or consistently but just enough to give me the high-sign that I had better look towards a transmission rebuild in my near future... dammit I just BOUGHT this thing, why didn't it do this during the test-drive?
So, yeah- you're having a better weekend. }:-{D
