[livejournal.com profile] shsilver informs me that the Wikipedia page about me is under discussion for deletion.

This amuses me to no end.

It was under discussion for deletion in 2004, y'know. I didn't even know I had a Wikipedia page until [livejournal.com profile] sarekofvulcan told me it was under the gun.

I say now what I said then: I don't need a Wikipedia page. I mean, I like having it, and if I think about it I suppose I can justify to myself that I might deserve one. I have done a few things of some note.

But for all that I love and support Wikipedia, there is one thing about it that makes me crazy (and if you really want a rant on this topic, just wind up [livejournal.com profile] partiallyclips): the notion that someone can decide you're not worthy of inclusion on the apparent basis of their likes and dislikes.

The guy who's trying to get me deleted seems to have a problem with my existing on Wikipedia because I'm not notable enough, or something. His own page lists him as "a comics/SF fan with a background in mathematics, living in the Greater Manchester area (that's in England, folks)". It mentions his Doctor Who fandom, and hints that there's a story behind his nickname. And, apparently, he comments on his own page.

I'm not calling for the deletion of his page.

ETA: The call to delete the page was withdrawn. Many thanks for the yeoman work, gang. I am flattered by and grateful for your efforts to prove that I'm Somebody.

My man Lowell sent me heads-up about forty newly digitally remastered episodes of classic Star Trek that will air beginning Sept. 15. Also, the first season of remasters will be available on DVD in November. Granted, for $220....

Avast, ye scurvy dogs! I figger this be the best place ta be announcin' this announcement.

Inspired by the jibber-jabber from the Wikipedia thread, particularly [livejournal.com profile] kightp's sad tale of the lonely, cave-ridden lubbers what had never heard o' International Talk Like A Pirate Day, this year's TLAPD is gonna be special.

First, as of that day I'm puttin' a high-quality MP3 of the album version of the song up as a permanent freebie. Those of ye who've bought it in the past, I thankee fer supportin' the artist -- that'd be me -- and I think now's a good time ta make it a giveaway.

Second, I'll be havin' a sale on pretty much everything. But ONLY if ye know the Secret Pirate Code. Which is "ARRR". Think ye can manage that? I'll repeat it a few times before then. I'm gonna make sure all th' damn PayPal buttons have the option fer a discount code or a note ta me or somethin', and typing in ARRR will get ye a hunk off yer order -- not sure, but likely 15%.

Third, I'm hopin' (not promisin', mind) ta have iTom 4.0 done by then. If'n ye ain't got any of the iTom albums, there'll be a special deal fer gettin' all four at once. Prob'ly $30.00.

Thank ye.

Now, then. Ye've got less than a month. What're your plans fer Th' Big Day?
