George MacDonald Fraser, the author of the Flashman novels and screenwriter for the York/Reed/Heston/Dunaway/Lee
Three and
Four Musketeers, has
passed away at the age of 82.
What's your favorite swashbuckling book or movie? Fraser's own proclivities notwithstanding, historical accuracy is optional here. Those two movies mentioned above, along with
The Mark of Zorro (Power/Rathbone) and
The Mask of Zorro (Hopkins/Banderas) and
The Princess Bride (book and movie), are, I think, as good as it gets. Errol Flynn and Indiana Jones fans may of course argue the point; they'd be in my top ten.
