Of all places, AmericaBlog has two very cool bits of science news. First, video of a meteor that came down in Western Canada:

Second, the discovery of a single-celled organism that's over an inch in diameter.

And, through e-mail, my buddy Benji (I think he's droug) informs us that it's apparently possible to make a Star Trek-style deflector shield.
