  • This weekend -- right now, in fact -- is CapriCon in Wheeling, IL. John Scalzi, a performance of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Semi-Feral Mercy ([personal profile] tollers, [profile] harperjen, and [personal profile] sweetmusic_27), [profile] lukeski, a bunch of other nice and talented folks. I'm usually there, and I hope to get back next year.
  • A couple of good folks are doing crowdfunded projects. There's Drew Bates and his attempt to get a really, really animated short of Redneck Ninjas (you'll recall I wrote the music for this one, and if it goes anywhere I'll write more).
  • Our friend from Girl Genius, Cheyenne Wright, is trying to fund Machination: A Game Of Evil Genius.
  • If you haven't seen this already, pmG is dong a pull-out-all-the-stops sale on its high-end 3D modelling and animation software... as in, $10 (or $40 for the big-ass pro version) as opposed to $499 (or $1195). Prices only last until their target is hit, you don't get the software until the target is hit, and if they don't reach the target everyone gets a refund. Meantime, you can download a demo.
Ready... set... Pimp Your Stuff!

Y'ever consider Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog as an 8-bit video game? Doctor Octoroc did.

And here's the video.... )

You may have been aware that there's a new take on Alice this Sunday night on SyFy. You may not have been aware that there's The Hero of Time, a new fan movie based on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, that will be available for online viewing or free download on Dec. 14.

There's also a very cool teaser making the rounds for Buck Rogers.

There's a silent film of The Call of Cthulhu (trailer here).

And leave us not forget the other two recent fan film opi, Horrible Turn and The Hunt For Gollum.

Any cool fan vid we should know about? Really good AMVs (anime music videos) count.

ETA: And, not too long after I posted this we got RtRNRi30S(aR-EbB).

ETA2: Re: release of The Hero of Time -- I cannot brain, I have the dumb. It's Dec. 14. Fixed.

So, I've got this domain.

Goggleheads.com is currently just a placeholder page. My intention is to have it be a Mad Science portal. Specifically (in WordPress terms), I'm thinking such categories as:
  • New Discoveries
  • Reanimation
  • Zombies (different from Reanimation in that they're mindless and monstrous, at least that's what I'm telling myself)
  • Modes of Transportation
  • Technology
  • Cthulhu Mythos
  • Ancient Civilizations
  • The Cosmos
  • Art
  • Music
  • Gaming
  • Personalities
Now, I could be completely full of it on these. So I'd like your help and advice. The general decor will likely be steampunk (although I'm putting it into WordPress specifically so I can change it at a moment's notice), but steampunk is only part of what I'm thinking. What works for you guys? If you can, keep it to a dozen categories or less. Moreover, what do you think would be a good general direction for the site? Remember that I have to maintain it while writing music and going to cons. I also may add a couple of administrators, or allow members to post, or somethin'. Dunno yet. That's why I'm asking.

Thanks.

On the off-chance that you didn't have good internet over the weekend (like I didn't) and hadn't yet seen it:

Aaron Williams, by way of [livejournal.com profile] bayushisan, tells us that the Dr. Horrible sequel may be a feature film. (SPOILERS if you click.)

I'z on it.

Fairly far down in the Dishonorable Mentions (i.e., rejected applications), but still.

Oh, and they seem to have swapped the left and right channels of the audio. So when the first Bad Horse Chorus guy comes in on the left, his voice comes in on the right, and the second comes in on the right as his voice comes in on the left. It's obvious a few other places.

Now then -- Commentary! The Musical. I think I love it, but I'm not sure how much I'm gonna listen to it right away. It's faux meta -- they're all in character as versions of themselves, and it's a little hard to take in places... everybody arguing about how obnoxious they were on the shoot, complaining about how many songs they have in the musical, etc., etc. But there are a lot of good lines, Joss is stretching more musically, and the performances are superb.

Thoughts?

I've suggested we do something Dr. Horrible-ish at MillenniCon in March. Lisa Ragsdale suggested I get ahold of [livejournal.com profile] surakofb5 to help organize it (because of her past Buffy The Musical experience. And we may end up doing both a sing-along to the video and a Mad Science theme filk.

So. Who's interested? Requirement: You must actually intend to attend MillenniCon.
