You may remember the incredible short film "Aviator", which ends up as a JC Penney commercial, giving us perfectly damn good reason to spend money at JC Penney if they finance stuff like that.

In the same vein, it's time to love Pantene:

Dammit! I haven't cried at a commercial since the old Reach out & touch someone phone coms. Music is a universal language.

Speaking of which, can hardly wait to see you!

The way she's playing at the end reminds me of Alexander James Adams when *he* gets going. Though she appears to not be shredding her bow... :-)

OTOH, Alec's fiddles are usually intact when he's done with them... *ducks and runs*

Ok, pantene, just for that I will buy your product. Even if it does make my hair look like I shampooed with olive oil.

*sigh* I can't help but wish that they'd found a model who actually played the violin, and I can't help but wish that they'd used something other than the dullass trope of Canon in D.

But I still got teary-eyed.

As Anne pointed out, some aspects are way over the top -- the orchestra coming in on her solo violin performance, etc. And, yeah, Pachabel must be miffed that no one knows his music except for the Canon.

Even so.

Well, you NEED to do some things way over the top to communicate the feeling of music through a medium like television. And I can get behind that. The electricity, the emotion, the communication, there aren't a lot of good and easy ways to describe that.

I just think that there are a lot of pieces - even well-known classical ones, in major modes, which evoke patience and love and wildness of spirit - that don't rhyme with Taco Bell.

And there was hardly a need to smash a violin to make a point.

I'd figure that if Pachelbel somehow knew that 300 years after his death that one of his works would be pretty much universally known, he wouldn't mind too terribly much that it was only one work.

Videos like this, and the people that make them, are the reason that I will never completely lose faith in the rest of humanity.

Wow. And yay for marketing folks who *get* it. Thank you for posting that.
The Aviator link appears to be broken, which is a shame.

If they made commercials like this more often, I might watch the commercials.

There's not enough that can be said in fifteen to thirty seconds.

The way her hair was flying during the solo told me it was probably a shampoo commercial, or some similar hair product.
