I bet he's puffing his chest out, making the President and Interpol hop around like that. Douche.

I would say good sense prevailed, but good sense had very little to do with this entire debacle.

In return for him calling it off, Imam Musri agreed to relocate the Islamic Community Center planned near the WTC site.

Why can't I help feeling like the bad guys won, here?

I'm waiting for Fred Phelps and his lot to show up in support of this dude, that he stands for America and all that bs.

had to turn off the news after a half hour of this idjut pontificating.

Imam Musri is not empowered to relocate Park51. That would be Imam Rauf, who just ran an Op Ed in the times that he can't relocate it without ceding the discourse to extremists on both sides, which is why he won't.

No, according to the article, that's what this "pastor" claimed. What the imam (not Musri) talking with him said was that Musri would *talk* with the pastor about it.

Whoa. The community center isn't there yet, much less first.

What *was* there first is an *actual* mosque a block or three away (and closer to Ground Zero). It's been there for decades.

And Pastor whatsisname said that he would be disappointed if he didn't get what he was "promised."

I hope he's better-connected with reality than he seems to be.

Given that he seems to have heard "We have a deal to relocate the Park51 project" when the people building it claim that they said no such thing, and neither did the person who convinced him to call off the burning?

I'd vote for "heard what he wanted to hear," rather than "scared off."

I imagine this will keep going for a few days, what with the "they're totes gonna call of the mosque and I HELPED!" versus "um, no one said that, shove it."

Did you see the part where the pastor was saying how no one should burn Qurans, it would be a bad idea? O_o

I'd vote for "guy thinks if he tells the media something the people on the other end of the situation will have to do what he said they would so they don't look stupid." It's a pretty childish trick, but it DOES sometimes work.

That'd be my guess. Or he's going to take the imam up on the meeting, travel to NY, and burn the books there.

Phelps' daughter has already spoken up, and she's cranky that this other guy is getting all the attention when she and her family burned a Koran in public years ago.

Actually, Phelps has already promised to burn a Quran if the Florida burning doesn't go through.

And frankly, I couldn't be more thrilled. Because having the Westboro Baptist Church show up to support someone? That's the kiss of death. It's like getting a thank-you card from NAMBLA.

My guess

My guess is that the Pastor is claiming to have forced the masque to move so that he doesn't look like he is backing down. If people believe that he forced the evil muslims to move their terrorist training camp, then he can look strong and not like an idiot. Very few people come out every Sunday to listen to someone they think is an idiot. Or maybe he just wants to be able to continue to pretend he isn't an idiot, even if he's the only one who doesn't see the truth.
