Will this have any effect on those who were discharged? Will they be able to sue to be reinstated or anything like that?

I am very happy for this step forward for homosexuals' rights.

Perhaps this will finally lead to their fully having an opportunity to die for this country. Wait, that's not a good thing...

(Before anyone takes this the wrong way, YES I am happy for this news. I'm just not a fan of the military, or at least how it's been wielded by this nation's government in recent decades.)

Not that I'm a big fan of the modern military either--but as quoted in the original post, DADT wasn't actually keeping anyone out of combat. The military would suspend investigations while a soldier was on deployment, and then kick them out when they got home.

So LGBT folks were welcome to risk our lives for our country--or for the economic interests of large corporations with a tenuous connection to our country--just not to get due acknowledgment and the benefits of military membership afterwards.

This will especially impact women in uniform -- the majority of the attacks under DADT were specifically to drum women out of the service. (1. Ugly-ass creepo soldier-boy hits on female underling. 2. She ignores or refuses his advances. 3. Ugly-ass creepo reasons that the Only Reason She Turned Down His Magnificent Dick is 'cause She's a Lesbo. 4. Court-Martial.)

With this, and Judge Wilson's Prop 8 ruling? I can totally hear the distant popping sound as the heads of hysterical Tea Partiers and neo-cons explode.

(psst - it's Judge Walker) Otherwise I agree, and I look forward to the popping sounds. ::gets an umbrella to avoid being hit with brain matter::

Shouldn't need too large an umbrella, then...

(Cheap shot, I know, but I had a few too many people voicing idiot opinions while I was at work and couldn't respond.)
