I'm President of the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County.

The League of Women Voters is looking for new members. Our organization was founded in 1921 by the women who had put themselves out of business after 50 years of working to get women the right to vote. Though we retain the name as a mark of our proud history, we accept women and men on equal terms. We are not just an election year or voter service organization; we meet year round to discuss the issues in a non-partisan, friendly atmosphere.

Tom, I'll just splut the whole can of spackle into this comment:

The 11th Acorn Music and Verse housefilk will be held Saturday, October 2, from 1:00 pm into the evening at the Great Oak Cohousing Common House, 500 Little Lake Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. (that's off of Jackson Road west of town, between Wagner and Zeeb roads--just google map the address)

This is the direct descendant of the "Fen and Filk" house sings at Glimmerglass house, and they are always a good time.

It's a fun, inviting get-together where you will always get a turn to sing, recite a poem, or what-have-you (you can pass if you want), and new people are welcome and encouraged. :) You can show up any time during the event, and leave at any time. Our schedule is to arrive at 1:00, get singing by 2:00, break for pizza around 5:00, and then sing till usually 8:00-ish. Occasionally there is a musical jam that continues well after the 'end' of the event, so feel free to stick around if you're interested!

It's a friendly, non-judgmental place to start singing, playing, or reciting in front of people, and a fine spot to test out your new songs. We welcome instrumental musicians and spoken word performance as well. There is a kid-friendly play room next to the dining hall where we play, and kid-friendly play equipment outside if the weather is nice.

Please park at the side of Little Lake Drive, and not in the parking lot - there is very limited parking available for residents. It is OK to pull up to the Common House for unloading, and there is handicapped parking available next to the Common House.

Hosted by Hope Dundas & Maggi Idzikowski.
Supported by Susan Moerdyk & Peter Alway.

Come and participate - song or word! Bring friends!

Bring a snack, a dish to share, if you're able - what food & drink we have is whatever we bring. :)

Going to be lazy and copy the entry from my journal:

My former donation team isn't around this year, the core members having graduated college, so I almost missed Extra Life (https://www.hospitalshelpingkids.org/ExtraLife/m.aspx?i=19748D723789AAA96) coming up! Looks like I'll be soloing this year, but I still want to participate.

What is Extra Life (https://www.hospitalshelpingkids.org/ExtraLife/m.aspx?i=19748D723789AAA96), you may ask? It's a video game marathon to support Texas Children's Hospital and pediatric cancer research. It works something like a walkathon -- you donate to "sponsor" me, and on October 16, I play video games for 24 hours straight (with, y'know, bathroom breaks and occasional food so as to not die or anything). All proceeds go directly to Texas Children's Hospital, with no handling/maintenance fees.

Here is a link to my donation page (https://www.hospitalshelpingkids.org/ExtraLife/m.aspx?i=19748D723789AAA96) -- please donate today! They "recommend" a sponsorship of $24, but you can donate any amount.

I posted a new song on Sunday night: Stars. I'm really happy with the bass line because frankly I've never done anything with bass that cool. I just started heading up the neck going, "what the fuck am I doing?" and fortunately had the recorder running. I hated tuning down the bass during the verses and stuff because I wanted all the notes out there.

Clickie! Clickie! Clickie! Clickie! Clickie! XD

Also I had been about to give up on this song for a while because of the vocals, but after that bass line came out, well, I couldn't let that happen. So I didn't! ^_^ Clickie! Then hit PLAY!

The Transcending Boundaries Conference is a lively weekend of education, social activism, research, and support for persons whose sexual orientation, sexuality, gender identity, sex, or relationship style do not fit within the binary confines of male or female, gay or straight, monogamous or single. The seventh Transcending Boundaries Conference will be held Friday November 19, 2010 through Sunday November 21, 2010 at The DCU Center and the Worcester Hilton Garden Inn in Worcester Massachusetts.

Everyone who is interested in the issues surrounding living life as bisexual, omnisexual, pansexual, queer, transgender, transsexual, cross-dresser, transvestite, genderqueer, or intersex, as well as those who practice consensual polyamorous and/or kink relationships is invited to this exciting weekend. Even those who have never quite found a word to describe themselves will enjoy this weekend celebration of who we are.

The Transcending Boundaries Conference offers a wide variety of educational workshops that cover a broad spectrum of topics of interest. There are many opportunities for support, organizing, activism and entertainment to help learn about and celebrate who we are as a community. Many who attend the Transcending Boundaries Conference leave feeling like they really do fit in and with renewed excitement to live life as the person they were meant to be. We hope to see you there.

I'm really proud of the writing I did on Stone. If you like a good fantasy tale, I hope you'll check it out. If you like a story with a strong female lead character, well, I hope that Stone lives up to what I was aiming for.

You can purchase Stone this weekend at Archon (http://www.archonstl.org/34/) in St. Louis MO. Look for it along with other Dandelion Studios comics at the Literary Underworld (http://www.literaryunderworld.com/) booth. Next weekend, we will be at the SJS Comic Promotions (http://www.sjscomicpromotions.com/default.html) booth (Booth #641) at the New York Comic Con (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/). And you can buy it online at Dandelion Studios (http://www.dandelionstudios.com).

In an effort to motivate myself I've just posted the most recent raw chapters for a story I'm writing called The Unlicensed:

http://nimitzbrood.livejournal.com/tag/the%20unlicensed

It's only-semi edited and contains a considerable amount of stupid mistakes and continuity errors among other things but I guess I need it out there to get it moving again.
