A Viking Funeral for Olaf Glad and Big
Jul. 30th, 2009 09:49 amI've mentioned that I hang out at Eschaton a lot. Well, it is my sad duty to report that one of our regulars is gone.
Paul Hylborn, who went under the name Olaf Glad and Big, passed away a few days ago. Though I only knew him online, he was a nice guy and an insightful commenter, and he will be missed. Farewell, friend.
Today's a good day to tell someone you love how glad you are they're around. Actually, every day is a good day for that, but today's a good day to start.
ETA: I wasn't fishing for praise, guys, but many thanks. I love all of you too, and I'm so glad you're here.
ETA2: Thanks to
patoadam for the link to the e. e. cummings poem from which Olaf got his handle.

Date: 2009-07-30 02:41 pm (UTC)I wish we ran into each other more at conventions and stuff, but it's great to hear your music, buy your CDs and to know you're out there fighting the forces of evil with nothing but a heartful of song and some fun software (and an intellect the size of Pluto!)
Keep well, and I must send you some of my music sometime ... but not this week :-)

Date: 2009-07-30 03:58 pm (UTC)I'm sorry for your loss. You're right about letting people know you love them when you can. An online friend of mine passed away suddenly a few days ago and I'm still in shock. I know I received "take this quiz!" requests from him on Facebook not more than a few days before he died.

Date: 2009-07-30 05:36 pm (UTC)Readers of strong stomach who are not familiar with the poem from which Olaf got his name may wish to follow the link. Or not. The poem describes torture compared to which the four-letter words are trivial.
