Sadness. Legendary TV writer and producer Stephen J. Cannell has passed away at the age of 69.

He was involved with an almost ridiculous number of shows, especially Baretta, The Rockford Files, Adam-12, The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, 21 Jump Street, Silk Stalkings, Wiseguy, Renegade, The Black Sheep Squadron, and The Commish. Dude knew how to make a popular show, and how to write characters you cared about. Farewell, good scribe.

Damn. :-(

The Greatest American Hero, one of my all-time favorite shows.

My family used to watch A-Team and The Greatest American Hero together so I have warm memories of those shows. Mr. Cannell will be greatly missed, my prayers go out to his family and friends.

I think the typo in the title is in poor taste.

I haven't watched TV in years but Stephen Cannell was a name I knew immediately. I remember liking his shows a lot. Greatest American Hero, Rockford Files and many others I just loved them.

A great artist he will be missed.

Wow, that is just too young.

Few of his shows were high art. But most were just plain fun, and The Rockford Files and Wiseguy came close to defining their genres.

Did you catch Cannell in the pilot of Castle? He was one of the people playing poker at Castle's apartment, along with James Patterson.

Sorry to hear about this, he wasn't Shakespeare but with few exceptions TV doesn't want Shakespeare, they want escapist entertainment, and Cannell was pretty good at that.
