Out the door for part one of a root canal. Note my enthusiasm.

Hope you're doing better. Hugs all around.

ETA: Phase One complete. Minimal hassle, minimal pain. Best dentist I can recall being to, actually. Phew. Next phase in a week and a half.

And here I was, feeling sorry for myself because of a nasty sore throat and congestion (thanks, coworkers who feel the need to come in sick and cough into open air)...ow ow ow on the tooth. Feel better quick!

There seems to be a lot of this "crud" going around. I was hacking and sneezing for about 2 days and now it's just settled down to sneezing. All ready for OVFF...

I recommend copious amounts of laughing gas and listening to the soundtrack from "Footloose." That helped me when I had my wisdom teeth pulled.

Unfortunately, my only root canal was done by the dentist who I swear was the inspiration for the dentist in "Little Shop of Horrors."

Hugs,
-L.

Take ibuprofen in 2-hour stages, starting BEFORE the anesthetic wears off.

It ain't that pretty at all....

My root canal wasn't the most pleasant experience in the world, but compared to the way the abscess felt it was tolerable.

Consider this, Tom: the process has improved considerably since I first had it done. Used to be, you had to go to an endontist - yep, a separate dentist with freaking high rates and long, slow procedures.

The last two times, my regular dentist used an automated drill that works along with X-rays and does basic root canals without any of that other crap. It does require an extra visit or two for the crown - and the damn things still cost too much. (Wish we'd gotten real health reform instead of the watered-down crap we have, and that may still be killed when the new Teabaggers get into office.) But it isn't the horror it used to be.

I finally got my new permanent crown this week. Why "finally"? Because it took four tries. The first three crowns all chipped as they were being prepped and/or put in, which my dentist tells me is something that generally happens to one crown every four to five years. After the third failure, I thought, "Maybe it's a problem with the fit", and asked the dentist to take a new impression. With the fourth one, I could feel the better fit as soon as it went in, and now all is well.

Still, root canal? You win, and I'm sorry about that. Hope you can still enjoy OVFF.

I just finished part two of my root canal yesterday. I get my crown in two weeks.

The root canal itself (my second) wasn't actually that bad. It only took a half hour and I damn near fell asleep during. Also the dentist was an expert at administering Novocaine and managed not to sleepify my entire face.

Here's to hoping that yours is as relatively pleasant as mine was.

Ouch. I so know what that's like, Tom - and never fun. But good that you have a good dentist who can accomplish the deed with a minimum of fuss. Hope you're recovering! Are you at OVFF this weekend? (I can't recall if you've mentioned it ...)

I had one done that was causing me constant pain.

Best thing about it was the dentist was old fashioned and gave me nitrous....

Loved every second of it--especially when his gloves turned into a pretty blue spider.

Afterwards, the pain gone, replaced by embarrassment.

I'm really glad that yours is doing a good job. A wonderful profession that gets really bad press. Best wishes for a full recovery and painless life.

Thanks, m'friend. I haven't had a good history with dentists, which you could surmise just from my all-pro spitting gap. My last one was okay, but nothing special and rather overpriced compared to this guy. The one before that was the turkey who got angry with me for crying out in pain when I hadn't had enough Novocaine.

They've got a lot better newer methods these days, for dentist living in current age at least, so a lot of procedures cost much less time and pain. Still costs moola, though. I do notice a lot of new materials science and adhesives being used; didn't expect my mouth to resemble Home Depot's glue shelves!

Been there, done that. Nine times.

And oral surgery twice.

And an uncounted number of fillings and crowns.

And a bridge, that I recently had replaced to the tune of over $13,000.

So believe me when I wish you the best of luck!
