This is not my experience. My father loved his job. He lived his dream. I guess its because of all that time in a hospital as a kid. But the worst job I ever had was not a cause for an existential crisis.
I think this is a remarkably clear picture of a very, very common experience of life for young people--and not just those with poor prospects coming out of poverty. Some people hit that wall when they get out of college, others high school; whenever. It's getting those those next phases, getting in gear enough to shift to better jobs, that matters. For instance, this kid said he wasn't any good at accounting--how on earth did he set himself up to go into something he isn't any good at?
