Oh my.

What kinda cosplay are you into lately, or thinking about getting into? I have the suspicion that, before it's all said and done, Anne's going to get me into the regal robes of Edward, Emperor of Brittania, from Code Geass. And of course I should work on a Master Payne costume one of these years.

I completely agree in spirit, but I'd also like to stay away from referring to sizes or body types as "real". The flip side of a curvy/larger body type being "real" is a thinner/smaller body type being "fake", and shaming smaller bodies is just as bad as shaming larger ones. Nobody wins when we start ranking bodies; I prefer not to play at all. :)

Excellent point! I shall start using the term "curvy" more often. Frankly, I like to refer to my size as "husky", which is how I've described myself when clothes shopping. "Do you have anything in husky?" works quite well in that the salesperson understands my drift.

Working on Latin American steampunk. (This is distinct from "Latin American person wearing European steampunk clothing" - basically, it's "doing to 19th century Mexico what was done to 19th century London in mainstream [as it were] steampunk culture".) At the moment it's a basic female revolution fighter's outfit with some steampunked elements (metal-and-gear fascinator in my hair instead of flowers; all embroidery details that are normally flowers or geometric designs replaced with gears and cameos; steampunk crucifix; steampunked rifle). I'm having more fun than I would with European steampunk because since there's no narrative about what steampunk Mexico looks like, or even what it is, I get to make shit up!

(I look forward to wearing it to the next Abney Park concert and being an interesting contrast to all the European steampunk.)

I put together a Neo-Victorian (i.e. "steampunk" without the "steam" or the "punk") outfit - black tailcoat, red ruffled shirt, black Utilikilt, New Rock boots, and a top hat. No particular character, but I think it looks pretty nifty.

Latest actual character I cosplayed as was probably Jayne Cobb. Costuming's one of those hobbies that fell to the side when I got really busy, I'm afraid.

Ummm ... how did that blog justify saying that? I thought goths were all depressed and emo (except for NCIS). I met a few steampunkers and they were pretty happy.

Steampunk may not be my thing, but I do respect them for the effort they put into their costumes.

I've been doing more Steampunk cosplay lately. I'd love to do more movie or comic book cosplay, but as you know Bob, my body type doesn't lend itself to superheroes or villains... unless I do The Penguin, Kingpin, or The Blob. :-\

And, yes, you would do very well as Master Payne... and I think you'd make an AWESOME Henry VIII!

Or anyone (ok, any female) from 1/2 Prince, but those costumes look a little more difficult to make.

On the non-anime side, I have a thing for action heroines, and Lara Croft is a good choice for a long-haired brunette.
